| Silverstein – Sacrifice Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This is the first "single" that they have released after changing labels. I saw the band last night and they had NO merchandise for sale from the previous label. I've heard some shady rumors about the label. I wonder if there wasn't some sort of falling out and this song is in reference to it all. It seems to be about feeling ripped off (sacrificed for someone else's gain) by someone with bad intentions, "You'll take your share at anyone's cost/ Satisfy your worst intentions, I'm your sacrifice." "The anchor's up, your ship has been sailed" Possibly in reference to the last album (Shipwreck in the Sand) released on the former label? Just a thought. |

| Silverstein – My Heroine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think the "chisel my heart out of stone, I give in every time." part means he tries to be hard about his feelings but he can't and gives in "every time." | |
| NOFX – Suits and Ladders Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think that Fat Mike is comparing his life to your typical working person's life. A lot of the songs on the Coaster album speak towards this theme. (Last Call, I AM an alcoholic, The Agony of Victory) Fat Mike is living a dream. He found a way to actualize what many of us will never be able to... "find something you enjoy doing and you'll never work a day in your life." He doesn't work a "9-5" job like your average person. Most of us will slave our lives away with our faces "permanently frowned" in jobs that do not make us happy only so we can go home and drink, smoke, gamble... (insert more vices here) ourselves into temporarily forgetting how shitty our lives have turned out. He is saying that, in the end, all of our lives are meaningless. Many of us spend our lives trying to convince ourselves otherwise... thinking "life is more than a game of suits and ladders" but "nothing really matters." We are all superfluous. |

| Bad Religion – Stranger Than Fiction Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Fat Mike and Brett Gurewitz are friends. NOFX has the song "Stranger than Fishin'" and released some 7-inches like "Surfer (Suffer)" where they re-use the same artwork. I could have sworn I saw a Bad Religion shirt for sale at warped tour that was using the design from NOFX's "So Long..." album. | |
| No Use For A Name – Straight From The Jacket Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think all the posts are correct but missing one aspect. Look at the title "Straight from the Jacket." This song is about a step-father who sends a kid to an insane asylum. 'The men all dressed in white, when you become undone." Pretty much saying, if you're going to act suicidal then we will "feed you to the lions" and show you what it REALLY means to feel scared and hopeless. (looking down the barrel of a loaded gun - as someone mentioned earlier) |

| Pinhead Gunpowder – 27 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Correct. Mike played bass on Screeching Weasel's "How to Make Enemies and irritate People" album. Tre came from Lookout Record's founder's (larry Livermore) band called The Lookouts. | |
| The Ataris – The Last Song I Will Ever Write About A Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think he's singing about the inner struggle people sometimes have when relationships end. "And wonder what went wrong" He still has feelings for the person and wonders what went wrong. "or even more just what went right." However, he understands that breaking up is the right thing. |

| Someone has too much time on their hands. | |
| NOFX – The Quitter Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Anyone know what the Charlie Chan reference is all about? "The Charlie Chan's chopped, Pabst pitcher's been poured." Wikipedia says he is a famous movie character but I don't see any reference to drugs or a reason why he is used in the lyrics as such. |

| Linkin Park – Leave Out All the Rest Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Dreamer goes missing, one person worries but no one else gives a damn. Dreamer wakes up afraid of the reputation/legacy he would be leaving behind had he/she died that night. He/she wants to be forgiven and wants help to become a better person so that when his/her time really does arrive, people will care. Singitloud has it right: "it's someone basically admitting that he's a fuck up. He's done wrong, he's hurt people, he's made bad decisions, but he really isn't a horrible person.. he's just been given a lot of hard times to deal with (I've taken my beating), and hasn't handled them in the best way (I can't be who you are). He's asking this person, obviously someone he really cares about, to look past all his mistakes and all the things he's done wrong. He wants the person to know he's a good man and that he's trying." |

| The Network – Hungry Hungry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Tre sings this one. I saw them live and can confirm this. Just watch the DVD Disease is Punishment. All 3 members of Green Day sing different songs for The Network. | |
| Anti-Flag – If You Wanna Steal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Congratulations! Your post is full of "meaning." Have a cookie! | |
| Bonde Do Role – James Bonde Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| That actually makes me like the song even more. That's funny shit. James Bond IS a fag. | |
| Nikola Sarcevic – The Law of John T Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| To me, this song is about how any time a person is confident and happy with themselves, there is always someone who will try to shoot them down. | |
| Alkaline Trio – Warbrain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
So what IS it about? All that quote tells us is that it's not about Bush or Iraq. They never say that the song is not about another war, ie Vietnam. Just because they came up with the name after a night of drinking doesn't mean the name isn't relevant to the lyrics, ie "War." Regardless of the true meaning, part of the beauty of music is interpretation and this song has so many parallels to Vietnam that it clearly can be interpreted as a song about that war. "I need that song those trusty chords could pull me through" Many times, music was the only connection soldiers had to their old life back home. |
