Two theories One its about the break up of a relationship, after the sex becomes dissatisfying and there is nothing left to talk about. The next theory I would venture, and this is just a personal interpretation. I see the stereotypical college students in the woods about to be killed by a monster. The premise of most horror movies. There is an honest anguish in the voices. They are about to die for the entertainment. I think that somehow the narrator of the song has finally figured it all out. He has no greater purpose. You can just stop talking I get it is the end of useless dialog because nothing will save them. He tells her or him that giving up is the only thing left to do. |

I have a different reaction to this song than most. Will I think of addiction (heroin as woman) and break-ups. I also think of a short story I read awhile ago. A handicapped guy named Ron full of vitality and life after a car accident comes to realize he isn't the hero everyone makes him out to be. It's late out one night and it's snowing. He is drunk. Just leaving being the life of the He thinks briefly of a friend he has She is just an average girl that does cross country, but he develops an obsession with her. He realizes all he wanted was to walk again. To be normal. Not to have any expectations of him. Not to force the admiration and kindness of others because of what happened to him, not who he is. All he ever wanted was her life. The ordinary life. I envision this song playing for Ron. In the end, he dies out in the snow, freezing to death in a drunken stupor and has a dormitory named after him. It was a good story and this is a great song. I dont know why it reminded me of it. |
