| My god I love this song even more than I love Hangar 18. The riffs are just that little bit heavier, making it completely awesome, and I love the idea of the aliens breaking out and exacting their revenge on the scientists who tortured and confined them. It needs no further unterpretation, it just plain rocks. | |

Okay, I only read the first page of posts because I'm a lazy slob, but has anyone here seen the music video? The song isn't about sex, and while it does hint at a relationship this is definitely not the sole focus of the song. The song is quite plainly about suicide, or about someone who is contemplating suicide at the very least. "I... I came here by day, but I left here in darkness And found you, found you on the way" He's saying when he was newborn and too young to understand pain, he was happy, but now (at the end of his life) he has experienced sorrow and is depressed. Between his life and his death, he met friends (represented by the other three members of the band in the video) and possibly a girl. "And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold" This has multiple meanings. The silver is grey, like all things dispirited and depressing are, but it is also bright and shiny. He is saying that all beauty is hollow and lifeless, and he’s sick and tired of always trying to look on the bright side of life and make lemonade out of lemons. Cold and silence are the reception he gets from people he talks to when what he wants are warmth and empathy. He never gets up the courage to broach the subject of suicide among his friends because they're always wrapped up in lighter conversation (represented by Adam and Hunter laughing and chatting in the coffee shop). Notice also that in the video he's looking down at the (grey) water, which is presumably quite cold even in the summer, hence the water is "silver and cold". "You, in somber resplendence, I hold." He is thinking regretfully of his friends (and possibly girlfriend), who he knows are good people and don't deserve the grief he will cause them by committing suicide. “Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one Your sins into me” He’s hoping that his best friend or girlfriend will not feel guilty or responsible for his suicide, as he places the blame on no one but himself. “As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble in prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness” “Rapturous voice” is referring to someone singing, which could represent lightheartedness. Also, rapture is a word frequently used by religious people to refer to joy, and I think there’s a church in the background in the video bridge scene. He’s either saying that as he’s standing on the bridge, trembling in fear and trying to steel his nerves to jump off, he hears the church choir singing and starts praying that god will forgive him for killing himself and leaving his friends/girlfriend, or he’s saying that he is sorry that his suicide will wreck the happiness of his loved ones. “(Your sins into me) Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow bones rushing into me” By now Jade, Hunter and Adam have left the coffee shop and are rushing to get to Davey as fast as they can. They leave the phone dangling off the hook and for a second he hopes they’re coming to rescue him (light = hope) but then wonders if Jade might have just hung up the phone (flutter of wings = it only lasts for a moment). I think he’s picturing them coming looking for him, but they’re referred to as “hollow” because he thinks that he’s just imagining it. “As you're longing to sing So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold” Again, the singing probably represents joy. He thinks they hung up because they don’t want to hear about his feelings and they’d rather forget about him because his depression is cramping their style. When he says he’ll paint them in silver he means that by dying he’ll make them sad like he is, but he cannot make them grey because they are so beautiful (he still loves them even though he thinks they’ve given up on him) so the closest they will get is silver. Wrapping them in cold means they’ll shiver every time they think of him. “I will lift up your voice as I sink” The first object he throws off the bridge is his watch- even if his friends want too stop him from jumping now, it’s too late. If they were watching, they’d probably be shouting “No! Don’t do it!” but it wouldn’t matter because his mind is already made up. Also watches are used to make sure you’re there meet people on time; there goes everyone he ever spent time with. The next thing he throws is a ring, which probably represents a woman. The ring and the watch together mean he’s let go of everyone he ever cared about, and no one can keep him from jumping now. “Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one, now Your sins into me As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness (Your sins into me) Your sins into me” The chorus, which I already went through. “Cold in life's throes, I'll fall asleep for you Cold in life's throes, I only ask you turn away Cold in life's throes, I'll fall asleep for you Cold in life's throes, I only ask you turn As they seep... into me, oh, my beautiful one, now” When he says he’ll fall asleep for them, he means that he’ll rest in peace when he’s dead, and the troubles and sorrows of life will not reach him anymore. He did it for his friends/girlfriend because he felt like he was dragging them down by being gloomy, but he doesn’t want them to watch him do it because he’s hurt them enough already. “Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one Your sins into me As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness (Your sins into me) Your sins into me... oh Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one, now Your sins into me As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness (Your sins into me) Your sins into...
