Blur – Mr. Robinson's Quango Lyrics 18 years ago
First time I heard this song I was 12 and had no idea what it was about but I have since wisened. Blur are so good at satire.

Blur – Coffee & TV Lyrics 18 years ago
It's all about finding the world a difficult and overwhelming place. Feeling like no-one cares about you and finding it hard to socialise with others. All you want is to curl up by the TV and escape. You dream about someday meeting someone who could whisk you away to marry them and live happily ever after in your own little world.

I can most certainly relate to this song.

Blur – Caramel Lyrics 18 years ago
About Damon's split from Justine Frischmann (as is most of the album)
Him telling himself that he has to get over her and make himself better but at the end coming back to the conclusion that he'll love her forever.
The title Caramel somehow suits the texture of this song so well.

Blur – It Could Be You Lyrics 18 years ago
How people really believe that they're in with a chance of winning the lottery and living the high life.

Blur – Me, White Noise Lyrics 18 years ago
Just typical drunken ramblings that can be heard in pubs all over London, uttered by middle-aged men, although not necessarily Damon and Phil Daniel's viewpoints I don't think. :P
Always loved the lyrics; "You know you get down now, and you look at the wall, And what does the wall say to ya? I ain't a mirror, fuck off"

Blur – Jubilee Lyrics 18 years ago
About a lazy and immature 17 year old boy who spends all his time watching TV, playing computer games and being anti-social in general.
Pretty much my brother actually...

Blur – Slow Down Lyrics 18 years ago
A warning to someone that they need to be themselves and stop living life so fast. The person giving the warning doesn't want to get too close because they know their warning is probably futile but still threatens to cut off the other person if they don't sort themselves out.

Blur – He Thought of Cars Lyrics 18 years ago
Exaggerating things perceived to be wrong with the world nowadays.
Overdevelopment - "the motorways will all merge soon"
Lottery mindset in people - "lottery winner buys the moon" (maybe a reference to people on benefits)
Just excess in general really.

Also on a side note after 9/11 the plane lyrics slightly freaked me out and then after the Columbia disaster, again... nasty coincidence.

Blur – Girls and Boys Lyrics 18 years ago
My interpretation is;
This is about a certain culture of the 90s involving lots of people going on holidays to the mediterranean to have a fun time and get laid.
The chorus highlights how people of all sexual orientations are getting involved with Damon sneeringly ending with "always should be someone you really love".
The second verse describes how vacuous these people are, not bothering with work and being able to count their thoughts on 5 fingers.
Sex is then referenced again in the lines "nothing is wasted, only reproduced" with STDs being briefly touched upon in "you get nasty blisters".
"Du bist sehr schön" means "you are very beautiful" and the following "but we haven't been introduced" is a sarcastic line pointing out how it doesn't matter any more if people don't know each other.

Blur – Blue Jeans Lyrics 18 years ago
One of my favourites on MLIR - someone who's currently living a pretty simple life but is really in love with a girl. He doesn't want things to change in the relationship even though it's inevitable given things he may have already done or said.

Blur – Far Out Lyrics 18 years ago
Alex, the bassist, takes a big interest in astronomy and this is his song. He has a child-like enthusiasm for it which is captured in the words. First he simply lists moons, "quiet in the sky at night", and then stars, "hot in the milky way". Ah, love it :)

An example of a typical londoner living life fast in a city that can be so harsh.
