This song is so amazingly corny... I can't believe I ever liked it. But what's more amazing is that coming back to it, I still ADORE it, now more than ever. It's corny, it's preachy, and it's cliched... but it makes you feel better when you're down, and I know, because it's been stuck in my head for years now and it comes up every time I'm down. The song itself? It doesn't give a message, it beats you over the head with it. It's cliche, yeah, but still, it's a worthy message because there seem to be way too many people that still need to hear it. |

The meaning of this song is, uh, blunt. Beats you over the head with it. Honestly, I have a friend I'd love to shout this at... who always drags me down and tries to play the victim... yeah. I instantly loved this song. |

Just adding to what I had said, for the record, to sum up to avoid the good ol' wall of text, but forgot to put until now. I wish this place had an edit button. |

It can be summed up, the way I see it, in a very plain way: If the state the world is in now is supposedly God's LOVE, I'd REALLY hate to see what God's wrath is. All the pain and suffering and diseases and injustice in the world is the work of a 'loving god', and that's truly terrifying. It's fairly straightforward, really. |

| I demand that this song be played at funeral just for the sheer irony of it. | |

Huh, nobody's commented on this yet. Well, it's straightforward, innit? A wish to be another person, that we all experience at some point, to be able to start again and not make the same stupid mistakes. |

As Neonsolid has said; It is an observation of the pain and suffering and hate in the world; people die for no reason, horrible diseases, blindless bigotry still reigns, and justice is perverted; and this is what religious people call the Love of God. Evidently, our pain and suffering is the proof that a god loves us. Typical religious logic. We don't need to take an individual stance to excuse ignorance to, as the song says, "pain and harm"-- if we stop accepting it as god's love, we can change it, but people refuse it. Mm, religion scares the shit out of me at times. If this is the love of god, well, damn, I'd love to see what they call god's wrath. |

| Sister Hazel – Give In Lyrics | 18 years ago |

It's probably... Just giving up-- being tired of having his words twisted and manipulated, tired of being told he's wrong. Sort of those situations where you give up and say that the other person is right just because you're sick of them instead of actually agreeing. Pretty straightforward. |

Very straightforward in meaning, and very meaningful to me at one time -- and many other people at least one point in their lives. Also helps that it's mad-catchy. |

Agreement with all above comments, really. People ignore the pain of other people until it's too late; this could be fixed if we paid attention, and realized that it's okay to cry and mourn because we're never alone no matter how cold the world seems. I absolutely, absolutely, ABSOLUTELY (no album pun intended) love the lines "And the fat kid at school- couldn't take anymore, All the taunts and the names and the ugliest words, No-one even stopped to notice, they went on with their day 'Till he pulled out a gun and blew himself away..." We are ASSHOLES, in general, until it's far too late to realize what we've done-- in this case, until somebody is dead thanks to people not caring-- in fact, not only not caring, but attacking him and ignoring his pain until there's a bullet through his head. It's such an insanely sad song, but it's doubtlessly one of my favorites on the album and by the band in general. |

| Sister Hazel – One Nation Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Holy COW-- I can't believe nobody has commented on this, but I digress. It's just, in my head, talking about people being taught to hate one another, when in reality we're all people-- even if we live in different countries, we as people are One Nation, indivisible, even if people try to separate us. People are taught to hate because they're "not the same", even though we'd get along perfectly well if not for that one difference that doesn't even make a difference but yet it does; religion, sexuality, skin colour, nationality, gender, anything else. We all -- as said in song -- try the same, cry the same, and then we all die the same. We're equals, we all feel, and we're all one people despite being unique. Really a great song. |

| Sister Hazel – Change Your Mind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Mm... Favorite S.H. song by far, and what got me into the band and hence what made them my favorite band ever. The meaning has already been said; it's just a message to appreciate your life for all its faults-- because for all its faults, you need to look at the good because you "look much better when you glow" -- when you appreciate it and are happy with what you have, instead of fighting with yourself and wishing you were somebody else. You don't need to be anybody else or have anything to be happy; you just need an attitude change. If it's not working, change your mind and change your outlook instead of hurrying around and trying to change things beyond your control. Extremely good listening for anybody in a rut, I'd say. |

| Bad Religion – New Dark Ages Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Mmm... just going out on a limb here. The Dark Ages was a time of ignorance and superstition, and was blamable a good deal upon the church, who placed religious leaders and such theories over rational action and experience. When one considers the typical Bad Religion tone on things, it's not hard to see how it could relate to the current times being the New Dark Ages; for current culture is a "pall on truth and reason", is it not? ... anyway, I'm probably completely off on this, but eh, figured I'd go for it. |
