| Annie – Chewing Gum Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Ok there's my interpretation of this song...I think I'm pretty close. The song is a dialogue between two people, a girl named Annie and another girl. Annie in this song is suppose to be a girl that plays around with boys and never takes them seriously. She refers to boys as being like chewing-gum. Where you enjoy it when it's sweet but spit it out and throw it away when it's flavorless (or when all the excitement is gone from that relationship). At first the girl asks Annie: Hey Annie, well look at you! Is that a new BOY stuck on your shoe? C'mon, Annie, how is it so? You've always got a new bubble to blow Annie answers: I'm just a girl that's only chewing for fun! Spit it out when all the flavor has gone Wrap it 'round your finger like you're playing with gum Then the girl answers in the chorus: Oh no, oh no, You've got it all wrong You think you're chocolate when you're chewing gum Chocolate is rich and the flavor lasts, no one ever gets tired of eating chocolate; unlike chewing-gum which you just spit out when it's done. Here the girl corrects Annie, saying, "you think you're like chocolate when in actuality you're just a piece of gum to those boys you think you control. The part "oh no, slip of the tongue" means that the girl accidentally said it to Annie...as in the comment just "slipped off her tongue". The rest of the song just continues in this same way... And most likely Annie is the one saying "I don't wanna settle down, I just wanna have fun"...etc. So this song isn't actually just a bimbo song about candy. It's actually got a pretty meaningful message :). |
