In response to Poolman99, Eminem may have only meant to give an example of how fucked people can be, but i think he was irresponsible in conveying that. he obviously can't control how his audience interprets what he puts out there, but i think he needs to sort of reapproach the horror in most of his work, being as influential as he is, because realistically the same people he is trying to exemplify are the ones who can now further justify the violent perspectives he writes from. |

i agree with HivesfanCC: "You are criticizing others about voicing their opinion about eminem voicing his opinion." i think it sucks because you know he has a very deliberate influence in the industry and he's misusing it. hype like this can have a very real effect, especially in justifying domestic violence. not saying that he would actually go out and do this necessarily, and it's good for him to express his feelings as an artist, but he needs to own it for what it is. and it's not giving the mother any sort of voice or name. who says it's kim? if it is or it isn't, or if he doesn't even know because it's just a theory, she is still unnamed and completely discarded as being useless and deserving of this betrayal. and it scares me that people, fully believing that he literally meant kim, just egg him on through such a cowardly response to his rightful pain and anguish in any such custody issue. |

on yessaid.com there are interviews regarding the song. she said that during the 'under the pink' tour in phoenix, a ghost came and sat on the edge of her bed and sang a song. he led her into the bathroom, still singing, and she turned on all the hot water and its noise harmonized with his singing. he then drew her a picture on the steamed mirror. she interpreted it as being "that earth and Jupiter were in love billions of years ago, then they were separated, and now they are billions of miles apart, and this is earth’s love song to Jupiter." at the time, she was in a really rough patch and indeed, as she said herself, involved in "a love triangle". i think the ghost was trying to help bring her to this apocalypse where she could see that the way she had "looked at relationships with men and put them on a pedestal is over." the man she had called over and over was in particular Eric Rosse, and i'm gathering that Jupiter symbolizes him. i also wonder about Fairycake's idea; "...In a self destructive move she has sex 'little macochist is lifting up her dress' with the other guy in the triangle because she needs someone to run to." |
