I know what you mean about that part sounding familiar. Somehow I think it is Mariah Carey, but I'm sure of Mr Bird is a fan... |

I agree with jimboa18's interpretation. This song is about friendship and dark thoughts and how friends are often there to talk to over a beer. A good friend can always save you from dark places your mind might wander to. |

This song reminds me of a much more care-free time. To be able to leave London with a horse and cart and a dog in tow just seems so idealic to me. Attempt to do that now and no doubt you'd get arrested for breaking the peace or something. Anyway a wonderful song about the animals she loves. |

Does anyone else think that the instrumentation on this track bears some simalarity to the work of Walter Carlos (the guy/girl who did the soundtrack for A Clockwork Orange)? Or is it just me. Great song though. |

| Nick Drake – Hazey Jane II Lyrics

Everytime I listen to Nick Drake I'm reminded of a summer's afternoon in the Sussex countryside where I loaded his three albums on my headphones and just walked and walked. It was perfect. Only stopped when I got to the end of Pink Moon then pressed play again and walked back. I remember finding an old Watermill with a Kingfisher swooping about. Drake provided the perfect musical accompanyment and that afternoon will always have a special place in my heart thanks to his music. |

I think this song is about a loved one who died young but was at peace with it and it was not tragic. Drake remained alive but knew than one day he would be re-united in the clouds. A truely touching song. |

I always considered this song to have something to do with an addiction to sex. I think that he keeps longing to be with her all the time even as the relationahsip is crumbling. When he's apart from her he's looking for similar people and suggests that it's his own problem. |

Thom Yorke has said that he was influenced by Buckley and from the distorted guitar breakdown in the middle you can see how. Also I love the waltz rhythm it really works for this song |

This is a song that reminds me of a particular moment in my life. We used to drive from our house in London to Cornwall about 300 miles late at night and this song used to be played on the radio in the dead of night when they didn't even have a dj on. It struck me then as a child how beautiful and sad this song is and even now makes me reflect on life and death. Truly great. |

I agree with knels21 about the percussion on this album. I think its the most important instrument at moving the songs along and setting the tone. For example the drumming on Squalor Victoria gives it a dark cold feeling wheras on fake empire it propels the song along. Is this effect as profound on the Nationals previous work? |

I've been listening to this album a lot recently and feel that alcohol is a very common theme, and was wondering whether someone could give me an insight into what this means to them. |

I agree with the green gloves synbolising jealousy. Its presumably a take on Shakespeare's "green eyed monster" from Othello. I think this song is about a person who has fallen out and lost touch with a group of friends and grows jelous of them and wants to lead their lives. |
