Linkin Park – Valentine's Day Lyrics 17 years ago
The lyrics of this track are very vivid. Although the words create a major effect on the impact of the song, what they inticate however is nothing too encrpyted. Many of the metaphors such as "dark clouds" seem to relate to death and darkness or the consequences of such. The weather is used to describe the writer's outlook after a tragic event so therefore everything from his perspective appears gloomy. The result of which is nothing to uncommon, the writer feels lost ("My path has lost direction") and vulnerable, (I used to be my own protection but now now"). This depiction leads into the best lyrics off the whole album:

"And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
And the ground below grew colder
As they put you down inside
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing"

Linkin Park – With You Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about attachment. "The way i feel was promised by your face", indicates an emotional holding where one's feelings depend on the presence of another. This is how for the writer, "Even though your not with me I'm with you" because although physically the "your face" has moved on, the "how I feel" still remains.

Surrounding the chorus are complexities that come as a result of the end of the assumed relationship. Again as with the chorus these parts seem to be emotional related. Firstly in the first verse "Waking up in a dream" and "Pretending to be where I'm not anymore" suggest that in or outside his imagination the perpetrator is confused as to where he exactly is emotionally. This relates to the condradiction expressed in the 2nd verse where "When things go wrong i pretend the past isn't real" however, "I'm trapped in this memory". These issues flow from the overall theme of the song - even though your not with me (physically) I am with you (emotionally).

Trapt – Promise Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah i agree, im a big trapt fan and this song is strangely, my favourite. here are the lyrics as i hear them please feel free to make changes:

So what is it now about me?
You can't give in to.
I'm forcing my self back
No, I can't talk to you.

Maybe I should realise there's a chance that
I was never meant to be with you..

So just leave me standing
Never make that promise
Shut away your feelings all for me.
...Forcing you to believe in something real
I can not hurt you
Run away, I won't complain its all
My fault, meaning as observed by you.

You see me beg and plead
Its what I always do
I guess I got off track
Oh, I must be confused.

Maybe I should realise there's a chance that
I was never meant to be with you..

So just leave me standing
Never make that promise
Shut away your feelings all for me.
...Forcing you to believe in something real
I can not hurt you
Run away, I won't complain its all
My fault, meaning as observed by you.

Would you care if i was scared?
Would you care if i was scared?
I am, for you.

So just leave me standing
Never make that promise
Shut away your feelings all for me.
...Forcing you to believe in something real
I can not hurt you
Run away, I won't complain its all
My fault, meaning as observed by you.
Meaning as observed by
Meaning as observed by you

Well i guess this song is about acceptance. I think our hero accepts the fact that his relationship has to end and that it wasnt meant to be ("maybe i should realise there's a chance that I was never meant to be with you")

But although he realises it has to end the last thing in the world he wants to do is hurt her. So he tells her to run away, shut away her feelings and blames himself for everything .. ("I can not hurt you, run away i won't complain its all my fault") Although none of these would change her feelings i think he believes he can avoid hurting her by implementing them. Also probably why he is forcing himself back in the first verse.

This is exemplified further when he says I am scared for you. Here he is showing compassion, and my only guess why is because he feels she may be vulnerable after the break up, and he is scared for her being alone.

The song captures this compassion early in the tune, i love the way the vocals (especially the chorus) have so much feeling, if you really listen. That is probably why it is my favourite Trapt song.

What do you think??
