| Thrice – Silver Wings Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I agree that there are parallels to God and plenty of religious imagery. However, I think Dustin uses these as devices to convey the message. I don't think the voice of the message is supposed to be God at all. He uses the religious undertones to convey each element as a powerful omnipotent being. But also as separate beings, and not the different sides to one greater being like God. Dustin's faith may lead him to supply songs with religious imagery, references, and allusions, but these cannot be taken too literally (in Thrice songs at least). These are used as devices to make the lyrics more powerful and meaningful. |

| Thrice – Lost Continent Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think he is calling Africa the new lost continent. We all know of the hate, destruction, and disease that plagues this continent, yet most people do not do anything about it. (I'm afraid I am mostly guilty here as well) Instead of trying to really make a difference we turn our backs, and unless we turn around and face what is happening it will spread and overtake us. This interpretation could be too specific. It might not be restricted to Africa, but strife all over the world that the majority of the population knows little about or chooses not to act on. |

I agree with the religious imagery, but I think the more important message is that of hurting our mother earth. There are several other instances where Dustin sings of our treatment of each other and the earth through war and pollution. I think the message Earth has for humanity is that she is not sure why we would want to escape our paradise. She sees that we have an instiable hunger and that we are destroying each other and many other living things that belong to her. However, the human race will not last forever and will eventually return to dust. And when this happens she will be waiting to forgive (more God imagery) and provide a safe place to sleep. I also agree that the end is meant to sound like you are being buried, not listening to someone being buried. |

| Thrice – As The Crow Flies Lyrics | 17 years ago |

perfect samkilmoon. definitely about watching his daughter grow up. referring to children growing up as spreading their wings and leaving the nest is a very common metaphor. such a beautiful song, like pretty much all of air and water. |

| Thrice – The Lion and the Wolf Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I agree that "mocking man's best friend" refers to a wolf being closely related to a dog. However, I think the wolf symbolizes those that are close to you and you consider to be a friend. When actually they will be the cause of your demise. Thank you neenja for pointing out the fable, I was curious where Dustin got the whole Lion/Wolf idea. In "The Sky is Falling" Dustin refers to jingoism a couple times, and he refers to war in several other songs in this project. I think the wolf represents (more specifically) any government that uses offense as its best defense. For example, the U.S.'s current foreign policy. And Dustin is saying this will only invite those that already oppose us to attack, and our government will have to clean up the mess. |

First of all, the story of Peter sounds like it is exactly right. Second of all, to say that Thrice does not label themselves a Christian band because there is less money in it is an insult to them as musicians and I have no respect for anyone who would say such a thing. Thrice is NOT a "Christian band." Dustin just happens to be a devout christian, which ends up inspiring him and influencing a lot of his lyrics, just like his love of books (Abolition of Man, That Hideous Strength, The Artist in the Ambulance, Under a Killing Moon, The Red Death... all based on books/stories). Either way, stop trying to label a band as talented, creative, and diverse as Thrice. |
