| 10 Years – Dying Youth Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think it's about a couple who got pregnant during their teen years, "Reach in her womb Sheltered from strife Bearing the gifts And burdens of life" And the father is looking back on his life years later and realizes that he has been trying to hold on to his "age innocent," which causes the couple to argue. "I pray to be young And pray to be inspired But the words of your tongue Blister like fire" But together they realize that they have to grow up and take responsibility. "Those who Are looking backwards Chose to Live as statues Frozen fractured Youthful laughter Fades I can't let you go Slow down Don't leave Dying days of my youth Over take me" That's just the way I took it. |

I think she's saying that she's tired of sitting around wishing that someday, her prince charming would find her and sweep her off her feet. She's ready to explore, do something she's never done before, explore, find him before it's too late. And more than anything, she wants to feel alive, like she's actually pushing beyond the limits. And even if everything fails in the end, at least she will know that she had the courage to do something for herself. I honestly believe that every girl feels this way at some point in their lives. |

When I hear this song, I think of a guy who sees a girl in distress. 'I just wanna be where you are tonight. I run in the dark looking for some light' She has suffered from a broken heart, and he has watched over her through all of this, and tried to pick her up and set her back on her feet. 'And I would explode just to save your life' He loves her so much, that he would die to see her happy. 'Cover your eyes, Get your disguise, They won't ask you why, They just watch you die. And it's still so hard to be who you are, So you play this part, The show goes on. You've come this far with a broken heart' He has watched her hide behind her facade for so long, that he would do anything to see her come out of her shell again. The entire song is expressing how much he cares about her, and the fact that she needs to move on from her heart break and realize how he loves her so much that he would die for her just to 'light her sky', or see her happy again. |

This song has multiple meanings. I honestly don't think the author had a specific 'meaning' for everyone to pick up on. I think he wanted everyone to take the lyrics, and interpret them to mold into our lives. They want us to take something from their lyrics, and find our own meaning. With that being said-- I do see all of your points of view. It could have a sexual meaning. (I don't mean that in a perverted manner) Two lovers with one last night to make an eternal memory. If I had to pick a specific lyrical meaning, it would have to be the one realating to death. When I listen to the song's tone and lyrics and such, I think of someone trying to make everything right. Someone who is desperately searching for that last bit of comfort before he leaves. 'Say you will be all around me' He is wanting to be surrounded by a carefree love, a comfort that he can't seem to find anywhere else. It's like a reassurance that everything will be alright in the end. 'When your Body sets Your Heart Free' When your spirit is set free after death. 'But one last sunrise And when we stand there together not scared I’ll dry your last tear And then we're just air' One last night together, and she will stay with him and be his comfort. He will dry her last tear because she is grieving over what she will soon lose. And then he will die. (Maybe they will die together, like in The Notebook?) 'Go put on your best tonight It’s you and me and not much time' It reminds me of the song "Live Like You Were Dying" They are going to go out and do all the things that they would usually be afraid to do, because they know this is their big chance. Which leads back to: ('And when we stand there together not scared') They know they have a limited amount of time to live freely, So they Live For The Moment. 'Take my body set my heart free Say you’ll get me through the ending' He wants to become one heart with her. (Which is where I could see the sexual reference.) But most of all, he wants her to be with him through the end. He wants her to comfort him and live the remainder of his life with him, Live For The Moment, Live Like You Were Dying, Live FREE. I See It As A Last-Day-On-Earth. [Not To Be Depressing or Anything] I see it as the beautiful ending of a beautiful connection. But as I said earlier--I think the lyrics were put out there for everyone to interpret them as they wish. We should all take what we want from the song. There is no right or wrong meaning. Lyrics are out there to make us think and relate. |

This Song is truly Beautiful. I am an extremely lyrical person. I'm one of those people who can't listen to a song unless I know every word of it. Anyway, When I read the lyrics and really thought about them, They made me want to break down in tears. You can tell by the way he sings and the expressions in his voice just how much passion he has put into the song itself, not only through the lyrics, but through his performance and all. The Song Is About A Guy who has basically poured everything into this relationship, because she is the basis of his life entirely... but she is oblivious. The song is about his pain. It is the PERFECT example of what people mean when they use the expression: 'love someone so much that it hurts'. He loves her so much, that it's literally painful to love someone SO much, and have them constantly push you aside. It may sound exciting and such, but the actual meaning is SO much deeper. It's a feeling that you can only understand through experience--one that will break your heart. |
