Gatsbys American Dream – A Mind of Metal and Wheels Lyrics 17 years ago
I wonder, does anyone know if these lyrics represent some literary work or directly quote any? I know that GAD do that for a few of their songs, including Badlands ("...rise/And creep across the sky/And all night as I fled/You came behind/Eating all the stars" is from Return of the King), and Fable (the lyrics are based off of Lord of the Flies). If it doesn't, then big kudo points on some poetic, original songwriting.

Gatsbys American Dream – The Badlands Lyrics 18 years ago
Good song. It's kind of neat/strange that most of their songs incorporate famous pieces of literature into them, like Lord of the Flies and Heart of Darkness. I
know the lines
"I saw you rise
And creep across the sky
And all night as I fled
You came behind
Eating all the stars"

comes from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King :

"It began last night at sunset. From the hills in the Eastfold of your realm I saw it rise and creep across the sky, and all night as i rode it came behind eating up the stars."

Rage Against the Machine – Maria Lyrics 18 years ago
Second to most songs i lurve from Evil Empire, this is one of my favs. It's very simple yet the lyrics and tempo compliment each other so well, as well as Zack's delivery of the verses.
itsacorporatething, there's only around 7 billion people in the world and like 300 million in the US. Im pretty sure we dont have a couple billion enslaved in our country.
and doubleohsomething, a lot of the RATM lyrics are based on cultural crises, slavery, etc., usually not the mistreatment of nature. And I htink that "Maria" committing suicide would have a more powerful effect than her just dying of malnutrition and overexertion in a sweat shop because it provides inspiration.
Not to bash on anyone's ideas, because everyone does have a fairly valid point.

and i kind of liked the Santa Maria idea, even though it's kind of unlikely. It's fits the first 3 lines pretty well and Columbus *did* takes natives of the Americas back to Spain as slaves.

just speculating...
