| Sleepercar – Wednesday Nights Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| He's trying to hold onto someone while their fears and insecurities, exacerbated by little things, are tearing them apart. For a while, he kept this person calm enough not to run away from her insecurities, but she finally bolted, and now they can't go back. | |

I think it's "And you said you were satisfied / And that this body's just waiting to die"... and I'd thought it was "But your name is what scares me tonight," but you might be right on that. Regardless, thanks so much, VoiT, for posting all of these. |

| reminds me of "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run" combined... the lyrics are rather self-explanatory, I think, and the song is very pretty. | |

prettytheworld, i can identify with so much of what you said. your interp makes a lot of sense. I think it could also be about a guy who started dating a close friend when she wasn't ready to be in a relationship wth him. She's still getting over an ex, and she's not ready to put her all into the relationship, and even though she and he both thought that everything would be perfect if they just started dating, things aren't working out the way they'd hoped. She's distant, and the disappointment and the fear of losing the friendship and the relationship is driving him crazy. And it's amazing With the look in your eyes Like you could save me But you won't even try And then you tell me again How everything will be alright They both know that he needs her more than she needs him at the time, and she feels bad that they rushed into something to which she couldn't devote herself fully, but she keeps telling him that everything'll be alright, that things work out. And if I told you That I'm sorry Would you tell me that you were wrong Or would you hold me down forever If I came to your for answers The speaker in the song knows they moved forward in a relatioship before she was ready, and now he's wondering if he can apologize, if he can make it better, and maybe eventually she'll start being the girlfriend he's wanted her to be. Of course, he fears that the alternative will happen: she'll "hold him down forever" in his unrequited affection and attention. And I saw Pictures in my head And I swear I saw you opening up, again And I'm surrounded You spill All alive and brand new And some days they're so good together, it feels like he and she will never be apart because they understand each other so well. And I'll forget about you long enough To forget why I need to But the happiness never lasts longer than they're together, longer than they're in the moment, so he convinces himself that the relationship means nothing, and he forgets about how much he wants everything to be good between the two of them. And I saw Pictures in my head And I swear I saw you opening up again Cause I would be heavenly if Baby you'd just rescue me now But, like prettytheworld said, he's so happy when they're together, not longing to be closer or anything until he's physically away from her, and he's still holding onto this hope that all their problems would be solved if she'd just give him the attention/affection he wants. The days are Drifting away from me I still wake up Burning through everything now And it's always on his mind. And I saw Pictures in my head And I swear I saw you opening up again I would be heavenly if Baby you'd just rescue me now Pictures in my head I saw you opening up again Cause I would be heavenly if Baby you'd just rescue me now. Also, mmusiclover, you might look into Damien Rice, some of Mat Kearney's softer songs, and a few of Brand New's songs ("Soco Amaretto Lime" and "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot"). |

ok new interpretation watching his friend and his gf breaking up... and comparing himself and his friend to all the "lesser guys" who "always win"... and reassuring his friend that even though the idiots have it better now, they couldn't be like them and they wouldn't want to... |

| watching his friend and his gf breaking up... and telling himself and his gf that they're not like that, they're in it for the long run, and they've been through way too much together for them not to be ok in the end. | |

she loved him all along, and he felt the same but wasn't sure if he wanted a relationship (and/or was still in a bad relationship with someone else). and now he feels awful for having led her on and never given her a straight answer or any closure. so on december 23, they're talking, and he apologizes and tells her he wants to be with her, hence the "merry christmas, baby." |

Perhaps "I was lost in the rye" is a reference to Salinger's Catcher in the Rye? The line "I'm just another misguided child of fiction" could support a Catcher reference... and the lines right after that, "School kids are shouting in the streets / And I wish I was signing in their wide-eyed chorus," is reminiscent of the scenes in Catcher in the Rye when Holden sees a little boy singing happily even though his parents are ignoring him and when Holden visits his sister's school. The city setting also brings to mind Holden's quest for enlightenment. Maybe; maybe not. Something to consider. |

| they're best friends who never got their chance to be together, and now she's scared, but he's ready to "find out how it works out." he's sure that even if it doesn't go smoothly at first that ultimately they'll be together, and he doesn't want her to give up now when they've "never been closer." | |
| Terminal – Dark Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| My best friend just went to college; I'm a high-school senior. He's trying to convince me to go to the school he's at now. He's honestly the best person my age I've ever met, and I'm so happy whenever I'm with him. It comes down to whether I pick an academically better school (or at least a school with a better reputation) over the first person to change my life fundamentally. He's said things things like, "One day you'll learn/ no place will make you happier" than where the people you love are (not verbatim, of course). The thing is that I wonder if I'm still "someone else's point of view," because everyone I talk to says it's awful to follow people to college and that, if a "better" school will have me, I should go there, and I think I believe them. So I "live in regret / it hurts to know how much [I]'ll miss." I'm already regretting not going with him before I've even made that call. It hurts to know that I may lose the best friendship I've ever had because we won't be together - and it all comes down to what I choose. | |

"On a payphone, remember those from another life?" reminds me of Futures... I hope that's what they meant. |

| (+44) – Little Death Lyrics | 18 years ago |

My first impression was that perhaps she's being really self-destructive/self-sabotaging, and he's telling her that she's not getting any results from that ("Your car crash in slow motion won't upset the pace on distant stars"). It'd be better for her to sleep, to accept her pain, and to realize that he cares for her and she doesn't need to hurt herself to get people to pay attention to her. Then I thought that he's telling her to put her problems in perspective; in the end, their real value is allowing her to appreciate the good things in her life ("a little death makes life more meaningful" means that bad gives meaning to good). He's not saying that her sadness is unimportant; rather, he's saying that she has to accept these things she cannot change. This one makes a lot of sense to me. |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Girl Right Next To Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |

They've been really close but then something (a move? a fight?) kept them apart, and it was really hard on one or both of them ("I feel like I've been off to war"), and finally they start talking again ("Where the hell you been?"). All he wants is to be with her ("And now I can't sleep at night") but he knows that it'll ruin any chances at keeping their friendship or starting a relationship if he's too needy right now ("I'd love to beg, see, but I'm just too proud"). She's 17 and thinks that any relationship right now is for short-term benefit ("And when you dream, 17"). Maybe she's with someone right now and that's another reason he can't tell her how he feels. He might be as young as she is, but he's thinking long-term and can see himself with her forever ("'Cause in all my dreams, I'm 23, and she's the girl right next to me"). I think the last lines fit best as something he's saying from her point of view, like he's saying that she'll "run like hell right back to [him]". When times get hard and her only other choice is "drinking alone," she'll come running to him, because she's "sober" with him - they're most authentic with each other. Or he might mean that he's stuck on her ("I'm caught in a trap"), and even though at present they're not doing too well (or they're not as close as he'd like), he'll still wait for her because he's got a vision of them together when he's 23. I also like what revzxr5 said, that when he's older (after college), they'll be together. |
