that's the song that made me fall in love with placebo, really. there's something completely amoral, obsessive and sexual about it.. a loveful hate or hateful love, and dependency, need. it's amazing. the thing that takes the pain away is obviously the drugs.. which probably turned this person he loved/hated away. they had no bond, no glue anymore, they're distant now, and he has no more tricks to makes her/him stay. but still.. the person lays him down and makes him crawl and beg for his/her attention and love. it's a bit like he's submitting his personallity for this person's love/sex. they were too tight, or siamese, for their own good, and got sick of each other. allergic to each other. it also gives the impression that the person pretends to be holy, when he/she isn't any of it. and brian's obssessive, and would even pay to have the person near, he'd do anything. the don't go and lose your face thing is like.. his identity lies with brian, and the person knows that. so if the person leaves him for someone else, it's like losing his/her identity, and stop breathing. and paying before he/she leaves, because he/she feels guilty.. like sex for him/her now feels like prostitution, or something to feel guilty about, without brian. so lay him down and let his lies go on, lay him down to start over again, to beg again. so brian starts the song as the poor guy.. but the tables turn, and he know what lies with him now. |

I think this song is actually one of their angriest. religiously angry, I think. it' especially about all that deadly sins crap the catholic church says. so, he asks the church to protect him from his desires, because he feels guilty, sinful. dirty. and there's the wedding bells part, which sort of proves that. |

I used to think it was just an abandoned woman.. but now I think there's more to it. I think it's a troubled couple. he's hit her.. spancked her or whatever you want to call it. but she is like most women that are hit by their husbands/lovers.. tells herself it's her fault and loves him anyway. so leave me dreaming on the bed.. because she doesn't realize what he's doing to her. but he takes off and leaves her there, since he probably wants no commitment. and she always thinks he'll come back the next day. he doesn't come right away, but he eventually does.. for the next round, and does it all over again. and she doesn't mind, because she's like those women from the past.. she submits her personallity to him. so she says he should keep this scene inside his head because for her, they had a lovely time. or, if she wants revenge.. she wants him to feel guilty, I'm not sure about that. and the swelling and bruises are quite obvious, but they might be emotional bruises as well. so she thinks he doesn't want to see her because he's not in town.. but I guess he is. and rejects her, or acts shallow, as she sees it. and he promised her the world, but his promises meant nothing as he hit her, or threw her to the ground. but still, she wants him to come back. she loves him.. she thinks about his lips, his kisses.. and his wrists, also. so she lets him do what he wants to her. but I guess, by the ending of the song she realizes what he's doing. but she doesn't feel angry, she takes it as it is. so then, you see how her point of view has changed in the last part of the song, because she's changed her memory of their nights. she isn't dreaming anymore, she realized all the bruised and the blood. |

he was deeply in love with someone who just wanted sex, not him. so the person loves things he does, but not him. and.. well, loves the sin they commit together, but doesn't love him at all. but he's REALLY in love with this person, and he allows the person to play with him and do whatever he likes, pretending to himself that the person cares. this day he's just realized what the person had been doing to him, and this knowledge is killing him. but he thinks there will be a comeback, because the past will catch up with the person as much as he/she tries to deny it/him. and well, because he IS brian, after all :) the person's broken up with him, and let him loose in a world of contradiction, in which this person was involved too. |

it's a bit like passive aggressive. he's deeply in love with someone who can't love him back, because he/she has way too many things inside his/her head. way too much suffering, you know. can't find him space inside their bleeding heart. so like, he wants to throw the person off the ceiling meaning he wants him/her to break the barrier and the walls that are trying to keep him away. he wants to remain the person's funny valentine.. because that's a memory from the first days, when they were happy together, he hangs on to that memory. but he thinks the person's gonna leave him, and that for him would be the end.. or blindness. and he's blinded himself to anything but this relationship, since he's so in love with the person, and the person's blind to anything but his/her suffering. he tries to convince himself he's tried anything to make the person feel well again, and he wants to fill the person every breath with meaning.. so that he/she can find some purpose in life, something to live for. and that line just makes me want to marry him, for god's sake :) and he wants to find them a place to hide from everyone/everything that's causing his/her suffering, and a place to start over, and be happy again. yep, these two lines make me want to marry him, aaaawww :) but the person doesn't believe anything he's saying, and doesn't realize how bad he wants this relationship to work, and keeps destroying his/herself. he knows the person's broken inside, but he still wants to try. he wants to freeze them both in time back when they were happy and nothing else would matter. and he wants to give up the blindness and make her see things a different way, the way HE sees them. jesus, I wanna marry him. |

so this one's like when johnny and mary were young. there are both points of view here, he's trying to save the relationship, she's getting more and more bored with it each day. he's the optmystic one here, 'cause everybody is a star in his eyes, if you will. :) her interest in the relationship seems to be fading, but he doesn't want to give up, since he's optmystic. and so he tries to be cuddly and everything and she doesn't give a shit. she's cynical, and he doesn't know what the fuck's going through her head, that's why he needs a laser. he's full of dreams, he's a poet, and he treats people well and thinks they're gonna return his favour, but they don't.. and that makes her even more pissed, because she's sure he's going nowhere. she doens't want to encourage him, but doesn't want to give him hope either, so he comes to her with all his utopic plans aand everything, and she just chooses to turn on the tv and pay no atention to him. and i think he doesn't realize that. |

brian's left home when he was 17, so I guess he feels a bit abandoned.. like no-one really cared for whatever he did for a long time, and that's the real reason for the drug-abuse and everything else. he probably used to do the stuff he did to get any reaction AT ALL from his parents and people in general. so, he'd been living alone for a while, and hadn't seen his father in quite a long time, who's a very strict person, and never agreed to anything he ever did. so his father tells him he's coming to visit.. maybe to try to sort things out. so brian's desperate and anxious a few days before he comes, because he knows his father won't aproove his lifestyle. seems like his father is a very autoriethycal being, and very cold, too. like they never had a close relationship or anything. so now brian's nervous, and abusing drugs because he doesn't know what else to do. his father hasn't really seen him grow.. and his vision of brian is that he's still a 'baby'.. except thje baby's doing shocking things, like looking to get laid and looking torn and frayed, you know. now the masquerade thing has two meaning, really. to me, anyway: a) he wants to hide, he's embarassed with everything he's done. b) the masquerade reminds me of a roman orgy.. like he feels dirty but still can't stop doing what he's doing, 'cos things are way too tempting. ''It always seemed enticing to be naked and profane there is no denying'' - well, he tells himself he can't feel guilty of what he does, even though to other people, it may sound like sin. so he's talking about someone who's done a lot of bad stuff, and so is a fallen star, balthazar or whatever name he's given them. the person has died or went away, but he doesn't feel prepared at all for this person's death, because they have unfinished buzinesses, and he always thought they'd have time to sort things out.. but they didn't. so he thinks it's wrong that the person's dead, because he had waited too long for things to be right, but they never were. I guess it's one of those weird relationships in which you don't actually know where the person's standing, and it was like that for a long time, and nothing was solved, nothing was settled and will never be. and so he has a lot of skeletons in his closet.. except he uses the word centrefolds, that are dirty and hollower. and so the person's taken too much of the bad stuff, and can't take it anymore.. which makes me think of an overdosis. and this thing's happened a while ago, because there's already been a goodbye, in which brian hasn' t really had his part, and hasn't been able to say his farewell. thing is, the person was unimportant to anyone else but him, and that's why he/she's faded from everybody's eyes and won't be remembered, which hurts brian, because it scars the memory he has of the person. reminds me of a father-son unresolved relationship also. |

so this one to me is about a relationship gone bad, fading as silver turns to blue, if you will. he's sort of desperate about this lover of his, and so he hangs into every tiny detail, even his breath. it's probably a male too, since he says 'chest' and not 'breast'. but it seems he's the only one who actually cares about the relationship, he's not being taken seriously by his lover, and coming second best. so he's desperate, and a night without his lover is something to het through with, like, he can't stand the wait and the loneliness anymore. and he asks the sea for answers because he's so desperate he thinks no-one else would understand. but you know, there's a beachy sound to it, so he's probably thinking things over slowly and continuously, like the moves of a wave. he's always falling to the floor because he depends deeply on this relationship, and is deperate thinking it's gonna end. and floor feels softer now, since he's fallen so many times. the dog boy, media whore thing.. well, we all now what brian looked like at the time, and wasn't being taken seriouly, not by his lover, neither by the press. he wants to give up on their fights, because he feels his chances are over, as the relationship's soon gonna be. their bonds are shackle-free, and that's sort of like a hope to him, and so he keeps telling himself that. and their bonds are wrapped in lust and lunacy because the person only wants.. well, sex. |

I think this song is actually quite self-detructive. the main character there's just come out of a weird self-destructive relationship, and that happened because he's feeling so apathetic and non-human, that his relationship with people in general fell apart 'as silver turns to blue', which is actually a funny metaphor for a bad quality relationship.. he's bought the person a bad-quality ring, and its color started fading as their relationship did. HE was waxing with a candlelight, because he's as unstable as a candlelight, and his fire was only burning because of that person. the 'allocate you sentiment...' is quite obvious, really. he's choosing to be alienated and apathetic, because caring hurts too much, and as he says it, he's never been an extrovert, and doesn't ever wanna show his feelings. notice that he doesn't really say he's still alive or whatever, he's just breathing, which confirms his total alienation and apathy. now, I don't really have to say anything about the 'someone tried to do me ache...' thing, do I? it's seriously obvious. he was more than blind because he's actually chose to be so. he thought he was getting big things out of the relationship, but all he got was that person, and gor bored with it. he's stuck inside the circumstances because he's completely apathetic, and chose to be equal as everyone. and he's always been an introvert, hiding his real feelings and suffering alone and always seemed happy to anyone else, or happily bleeding, if you will. i gotta breathe to stay alive is where he actually feels he's gotta come back, but the fight hurts and it feels like he's gonna suffocate. and the countdown.. he's bored, and couting walls, as you do. |
