David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics 18 years ago
I've heard the Frank Sinatra links also but I think I'll probably uncover the meaning of life before I can totally understand Bowie.

Josh Ritter – Kathleen Lyrics 18 years ago
This, lyrically, is one of my favourite songs. It's beautifully written. The fact that it's immpossible to know for certain without being told what it is about only adds to its charm. I think any of the above could be close to the mark. My own take is similar to some of those gone before. I am also of the opinion that the virgin whurlitzer line isn't necessarily about sex but rather that Kathleen never really knew true love and wasn't all that sure how to deal with the attention her beauty afforded her. The narrator, while recognising her physical beauty, can also see beyond that and they share something much deeper on the ride home. Deep down I think I believe Kathleen is spoken for but unhappy in her relationship. 'I won't be your last dance just your last goodnight' and 'Every heart is a package tangled up in knots someone else tied' hinting at a third party. 'The next time we meet...etc' suggests to me that they have a connection but because of her involvment in a relationship it remains their secret.

Nevertheless I do see how any of the previous explanations could be spot on. Again, that's the beauty of it!

Josh Ritter – Bone Of Song Lyrics 18 years ago
I was at a Josh Ritter gig where he expllained the thinking behind the song. The idea comes from how until the 19th century ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs had remained indescipherable for thousands of years until Jean-Francois Champollion through his work escentially found a key to understanding them all. Ritter pondered with the fanciful idea that every musical note ever composed in time might have a key that releases the meaning of every song in the same way that Champollion's key released the hidden meaning of hieroglyphs.
Ladies and gentlemen, songmeanings.net is the bone of song!

Radiohead – Just Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought it sounded like Thom was singing about a religious radical or member of some kind of cult that was trying to convert him. 'Teach you how to be a holy cow'....'show you how to get to purest hell'....'suckered you but not your friends' etc etc. I did however read somewhere that it was about a narcessistic friend of Thoms. Best music video I have ever seen.
