I've heard quite a lot from people that they've changed their music so that the audience will enjoy them more and pay more to listen. Their new album was soft and had no relation to their old music. It's all music that you hear everywhere on MTV. Fuck, they even did a song with Tegan Quin. They play on the radio. If you think signing to a bigger label, playing bigger shows, and getting played on MTV and the radio is a way of living and getting a message out, you're wrong. It's a way of earning money. The only reason they get played on the radio and on MTV now is because of their new pop album. This isn't getting any message across to people. Most people don't even really take the time to understand what the lyrics are about. Making more money is alright if you need to survive..but why do you need to be rich. You don't. Money isn't the key to happiness. |

| Anti-Flag – This Is The End (For You My Friend) Lyrics

Moving to major labels and making more money seems to be stupid in many people's eyes. People say punk rock isn't about the money but how can you assume that Anti-Flag are about the money? They seem to be doing the right thing. Their messages haven't changed and they support things that they believe in, such as Military-Free Zone and PETA. They definitely aren't trying to earn more money, they probably just want to get their message out to more people.
And about selling out...creating music that people want to hear is conforming. If you create what you think will be popular among many seems to be what selling out really is. Being original and doing what you want is what you should be worrying about, not the money people make. Whether you're poor or rich, punk comes from the heart. |
