Spiderbait – Glockenpop Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's actually "Nothing can be too clever". Anyhow, I've always considered this song to be a very tongue-in-cheek rip at people like, well for example, Mariah Carey. It takes the piss out of these big artists that produce the most crappiest, generic stuff. But maybe that's just what I think. |

Ween – Push Th' Little Daisies (Album version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
All songs are open to interpretation, this is one of those ones I think you can enjoy without knowing the artist's meaning. The filmclip is -so- funny and I love that by the end of this song, his voice sounds like Cartman from South Park. xD |
Devo – Girl U Want Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the lyrics here piss me off, 'cause im quite sure they sing: she's just the girl, she's just the girl, the girl you want. But anyhow. I think the meaning is very strongly identified with "shes JUST the girl you want". In my opinion, it seems to point out, obviously, that its someone you want but can't have. Also makes sense with all of the other lyrics, so. mmyup. |
The White Stripes – Blue Orchid Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I haven't looked at any of the other comments, but my personal opinion on the meaning of this song is that its, quite frankly, about attention seekers. Namely people that are under the 'emo' stereotype, or similar others who use their supposed depression to get attention. I figured this from the lines: "You got a reaction, didn't you?" (Obviously succeeding in gaining attention. Lol.) "You were given a flower But I guess there was just no pleasing you" (People receive the attention/love etc, but just keep at it, and stuffs.) I dunno. Just some thoughts. Most likely someone's already said what I mean. |
No Doubt – Ex-Girlfriend Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think the biggest keyword in this song is 'kinda'. My interpretation (though it seems fairly obvious to me) is she was fairly sure the relationship in question wasnt going to work out, but she went with it to see if something changed in the meantime.. and now that the two have broken up, she actually does like him ? im not a romantic, just saying what sounds logical. |
Devo – Whip It Lyrics | 16 years ago |
great song, but extremely overrated S: its certainly not one of devo's best |
Devo – Beautiful World Lyrics | 16 years ago |
one of my fav, and first, songs of devo i listen/ed to. quite clearly is sarcastic and i love how the lyrics can invoke such meaning. |
Thin Lizzy – Rosalie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
to his relationship with her* ... |
Thin Lizzy – Rosalie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I havent heard the original of this either - though when I first listened to the lyrics properly, it reminded me of being about - for lack of a better word - a slut. 'Rosalie' is everyone's favourite little record girl, the girl who struts around a small isolated hometown, and repeats. P: The bit where he says 'She knows music, I know music, too you see' i consider the opposite of what dueyfinster said. They DONT actually have a lot in common, i mean seriously, anyone who likes music in the first place knows a fair bit of it. The fact they both like it, is like him trying to put definition to his relationship with him, when in fact, its lust rather than love. And come on D: "Down on me, rosalie Shine on me will you please" that doesn't sound sus to anyone? Anyhow, thats just my opinion. Maybe its because I wanted to put a different perspective on the song, but nonetheless, its great. |
Operator Please – Just A Song About Ping Pong Lyrics | 16 years ago |
dickyjoe090, wow, your incredibly valuable reply just showed us how much you care about the song's existance. As for the song itself - please, people. Maybe 'ping pong' is a metaphor for something, and that this song is about tit-for-tat, and people always wanting to have the last say, or win. Just because they're young, doesn't mean they're stupid and their lyrics are obviously pointless and meaningless. |
Supertramp – Breakfast in America Lyrics | 16 years ago |
xsunshine_x: i am extremely offended that you would even come here and 'advertise' another bands disgusting rip of this song. the only thing that makes the GCH's version bearable is the part they they've taken from this song - and personally, I think even that is hideously performed. Supertramp is much, much better. |
Pavement – Carrot Rope Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You guys are probably right, but just to throw something different out there - I think this is about gay men sex. All the innuendo between cricket and penises is really that. Little boy = males. Here are some quoted examples: "Be patient and I'll let you see my Carrot rope, feed my thrill, " Come on. Obviously, he's talking about his penis. This is oral sex. And near the end, as stated by mybodyisacage, he makes the infamous blowjob movement. "Debating if it's time to drop the bomb on you, my dear A little, little Christian lie," We debate over a lot of things, but when in relation to these, what would make better sense then debating if it's time to tell your friends/family/whoever that you're gay? And as for the Christian bit, doesn't christianity frown upon homosexuals? 'Frowning' being an understatement, of course.. Thats just my ideas anyway. The chorus is very catchy. |
Little Birdy – Bodies Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i agree with pinky bee - when i first heard this song, i was like 'ooh, its catchy~' and then i really looked into the lyrics, and what i deciphered myself that it was about anorexia/eating disorders. I know a few people who suffer from eating disorders - one of them died from it, too. I know that the general psychology behind them is that they are convinced they need to perfect their body, when in truth they are 'unperfecting' it. Er, does that make sense? The way she repeats certain parts a few times over, suggests to me the nagginess people with eating disorders (though not just them, obviously) can have. They lock people out, but at the same time are dependant on others' thoughts. "There's a lock in my heart There's a line down my eye" Her heart is locked on this particular goal, and the second verse refers to the contradicting ideals people with the said disorder have. In truth, i'm too lazy to explain it. But thats just my thoughts. |
Radiohead – Creep Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song makes me tingly. he has such a great voice, and the words are so easily heart-felt. though i don't really relate to either of the positions sung about, i can.. emphathize with the relationship this song is about. the end. |
The Divinyls – Boys In Town Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A great song, when she originally performed it in 1981 of course (lets just not mention the aussie idol finale) Song meaning seems fairly clear - shes sick of all the bullshit and wants a -real- man ;D |
Kate Bush – Wow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I mostly agree what you guys are saying about the song being about a homosexual man who is incapable of getting the really macho roles - however, I think all the 'you're amazing' and 'you're wonderful' bits are sarcasm - Kate is taking the view of a director/producer, and the homosexual man is trying too hard to become the actor. 'But he always dives too soon, too fast to save himself'; this line suggests to me that he practices things extensively ('We've said them so many times,') and just overall puts so much effort in, but never makes the part because of other reasons (his sexuality, etc). I only get this impression because I have known many gay men, and they generally always have a tendency to put so much effort in when they just might not be right for a certain part, especially in theatrical things, etc. I mean, this goes for everyone, too, so the song might not be based on sexuality but looks in general, or something. Sorry for the 'all-over-the-place' comment, multi-tasking =D cheers~ |
Spandau Ballet – To Cut A Long Story Short Lyrics | 16 years ago |
One of their best songs in my opinion, though I've never quite understood the meaning behind it. Damn you people, and your bad tastes for no commenting here your thoughts ! >; |
The Divinyls – Siren Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song.. so catchy and it makes you wanna dance~ I'm surprised there are no comments! |
Blondie – Heart of Glass Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Is this verse about anal sex? The whole song could in fact be a metaphor for anal sex." i lol@this. P: looking over that verse, it very well could be, but i don't think that was the writer's intentions. to me this song is definitely about relationships, how they were once good but were then corrupted by jealousy and fragility. "Once I had a love and it was a gas" |
Fad Gadget – Collapsing New People Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Clearly the words relate to vampires, though my idea was that they were moreso "social vampires", clinging or 'collapsing' people to achieve their goals. However, the two verses "Takes hours of preparations; To get that wasted look" could refer to goths somehow, i dunno. A great and very unique sounding alternative band, right here. |
The Sisters of Mercy – Marian Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I second herrog's comment. I like to think most musicians generalize in their lyrics.. and SOM certainly does. |
Thomas Dolby – She Blinded Me With Science Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Interesting thoughts MikeSty; though I personally think its the female in this song (the one thats sung about) that is instigating anything. And I disagree with most of the comments here. He constantly mentions how 'she blinded him with science', and describes her eyes - and those two parts in particular suggest that the female is infact NOT beautiful, and that she blinds him by using her intelligence, logic, science. I also feel this is the case too, as its only until 3/4s of the song that he then sings "Good heavens Miss Sakamoto, you're beautiful!" as if only just then surprised by her looks - but by then, hes slept with her, and has fallen in love. Thats just my thoughts. (: |
Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think there is infact anything wrong with MJ. He happened to be so talented however, that he gained unimaginable fame and iconism that has made him a little mentally ill as a result. He's an excellent artist who has produced dozens of worthwhile music, and I find it interesting that people constantly hassle him when there are plenty of less successful artists that have had semi-similar/similar antics. Power corrupts~ |
Kajagoogoo – Too Shy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Such a catchy song, vocals are unique and it has a very boppy beat to it. I likes it (: And its all about personal opinion, if you don't like a song thats fine. Blame yourself, not the song >; |
Big Pig – I Can't Break Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Absolutely awesome song, I love the tribal feel it manifests throughout the lyrics and melody. Though i've always felt the meaning was fairly obvious = someone needing to break away but not being able to. If theres a more elaborate meaning I'd love to know~ |
Billy Squier – The Stroke Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Personally I believe this song is about the music industry, or any form of business. Everything in it could have a double meaning, of course; but 'ear pollution' i'm sure would have nothing to do with masturbation or sexual intercourse. Ear pollution I've always thought since first hearing this song refers to music, and 'firm handshake' would refer to the industry. 'Put your left foot out', a term i've heard as trying to basically get an uneasy foot in the door to something. 'Work your way right into my face', eventually becoming bossy, or, 'in your face'? Maybe its just me, but thats how it translates imo. |
Sneaky Sound System – Pictures Lyrics | 16 years ago |
@zoomzoom: If this song is so horrible and 'shitty' as you say, why aren't you out there making better music? Afterall, music doesn't have to be complicated to be enjoyable, infact, its usually the complete opposite. Simpler songs are enjoyed because either a) people can sing to them easily enough b) the beat and rhythm are.. for a lack of a better word, SIMPLE, so that people are able to get the melody stuck in their head (aka, advertising!) and/or c) because simple music can be just as appealing as something 'complex'! Music is about stimulation and expression, taking out of account the fact money is involved. But anyhow. My main point is that I have nothing against you speaking your mind, but don't insult the intelligence of others for perhaps liking this song. (: |
