Animal Collective – For Reverend Green Lyrics 16 years ago
Actually I think it's a reference to Al Green who was nicknamed Reverend Green. Which would make sense considering the songs themes of the coexistence of collectivity through/with isolation ['we're all together now/I think that's a riot (wordplay on riot-that's hilarious that ya think we're all together along with the massive collectivity of an actual riot); 'Feeling inhuman/sing together now' juxtaposed in the chorus between an affirmation of acceptance]. Al Green's arguably most famous song is Let's Stay Together: basically a plea for togetherness. The song deals with the modern struggle of feeling that togetherness in a very dispersed culture.

The American Analog Set – Aaron And Maria Lyrics 16 years ago
Definitely agree with the whole disillusioned upper-middle class couple with a coming child. I think the coolest part of this song though is how well it flows despite the fact that it is in free verse. There aren't even really any internal rhymes...it just works because of where they place the accents (I capitalized the accented vowels):
"Now they resIde out in Brooklyn HeIghts
Where the rich kids hIde and the years go bY"
Cool stuff. Also [now this is a big stretch, but I think it adds to the aesthetic of the song, whether it was intentional or not (I'm guessing it probably wasn't)] this structure almost parallels the narrative in this song. These kids are lost in their own story and they are able to keep it together because of their relationship; similarly the song really shouldn't sound as fluid as it does except for these happenstance syllabic relationships.

Ambulance LTD – Michigan Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that the lyricist is illustrating his hypothetical suicide. The first indication of this is that the opening verses depict someone who is depressed. He then lists his flaws and promises that he's going to "fix" everything he'd done wrong. Then, the actual verse where he theoretically completes the deed is the one that starts, "But I'm gonna try / I'm gonna pave the way at night..." It says that he's praying ("singing gospels") and then he sounds relieved when he says, "Walking on blue waves," he is "out of his misery."

I may be wrong on this, so if anyone has anything else: they might be right. This is just what I got out of it.
