it is not in antigone where oedipus realises he has killed his father and married his mother and had children, he realises that in 'oedipus the king' the second book to sophocles' three plays, antigone is the daughter of the incestous marriage. i liked what bmking said about coming of age, i listened to this once and drew a picture of a young boy with a guy behind with his hand on his shoulder and pointing to a big rocket and everybody in grand stands watching. i called it coming of age... maybe the song influenced me.... |

| The Doors – People Are Strange Lyrics | 17 years ago |

this song is as i see it about a young man reflecting on his actions as a youth, going out, taking drugs pondering his existence, as most young people do.... faces look ugly when youre alone is perhaps on ones self esteem or how they see themselves, for when they are alone they look in a mirror, why am i alone whats wrong with me... am i ugly not just in a physical sense but also in one of character? women seem wicked when your unwanted i guess is the common thing in that a woman who wont love you is a bitch they break your heart. and certainly in my experience of going out, everyone wants to shake your hand and learn ur name, but in the morning you have no idea what any of their names were. people are strange when your a stranger because your on the outside looking in, at a very strange society, what allows you to see how wierd and wonderful human existence is; is precisely what makes you strange, being an outsider. when considering 'streets' i think its a philosophical concept of jims as streets are a unique expression of humans and our industriousness. it seems that highways streets etc are all very apparant in alot of the doors songs and i think its inclusion in this song is fitting. streets as the archetype of society indeed are uneven and even more so when depressed, uneven.... unfair. |

i like to think it was a tab of acid with a sun on it.... and the song is just about this guy who had a big night out and woke up on a beach because hes got no more money. 'too much sun will burn' |

| its apparantly about iggy waiting for his girlfriend at the time in a hotel but i can easily see how he has mixed loves of her and of drugs. i suppose drugs only really come to mind coz its such an atmospheric n trippy song | |

| ive had these lyrics written on my bed head for the last 5yrs and i just love to read them and mix between working it out and furthur confusing myself so i will never work it out and i can still enjoy it, i do think that it is about the relationship between him and his partner and also him and the world, i think that its his and i dont mean to be morbid and i dont know wether he had planned for this to be his last song but i see it as his epitaph.. his last stab at the world through his amazing poetic skill, but as i said before i just love every word and the emotion created by reading it, i tend not to even think of it as a song because the recording is too poor and cant do it any justice. | |
| Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 18 years ago |

a rolling stone gathers no moss is a old famous proverb, it can mean either by keeping yourself busy u will not be burdened with bad things or some people see the moss as a reward and so if you are rolling you will not get the reward, when i think of this with the lines "to be a rock and not to roll" i really think that it is saying dont worry about buying a stairway to heaven your only going to end up with a shadow taller than your soul so just be a rock and dont even bother trying to roll. i know that that interpretation kind of limits the meaning to a few lines but i think those lines are key in showing that this song is the lads saying were sick of consumerism and money and you can see that in "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving." and i dont mean to be cliche but i think the piper is a kind of reference to temptation and yes i would say drugs :) and how u can go with temptaion and chill out "to be a rock and not to roll." |

| its true about oedipus' fate to kill his father and marry his mother n have children n all but oedipus did it unwillingly, the song seems to say that the killer who awoke b4 dawn wanted to do it, this is when you start getting into the whole freudian theory but i dont think it was in sophocles' mind to allude to secret desires of men, i think he just wanted something so taboo that the audience of the times wuld really feel for oedipus. If we think of the end as a tragedy and look retrospectively at oedipus the king using frued the start fits the end of the song better, i used to think of it as two parts but it is one song and its all tragedy, i really think jim puts himself in the shoes of oedipus "He took a face from the ancient gallery," i understand he didnt have the best relationship with his parents so its not that far fetched, i really love this song i have since i was little and i guess i still am little bein 18, but im looking forward to spending the rest of my life interpreting this song and adjusting it to what i learn as i grow. | |

| Keith Flint as ive read was a bit of a hippy prior to joining the band, im pretty sure i read that he once slept at the bottom of the pyramids in giza, so perhaps he is the theological influence for this song but i am sure the rest of the lads were pretty hip on the whole eastern tradition stuff seeing as they were acid heads for a while. | |
