| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yeah, Fall Out Boy falls into the category of "15 minutes of fame, no talent, poser-pleasing wannabes". They would've actually been ok, but there are about 5,000 other bands that sound exactly like them. Originality lives no more. *taps plays in the background* | |
| Tool – Bottom (Demo version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'll post my interpretation later, but for now I just have to say that the transition between the spoken part and when the singing picks up again is phenomenal. It may be only about a second or so long, but it's my favorite part of the song. | |
| Tool – Crawl Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It is a pretty good Tool song. It's one of those songs I listen to when I'm angry and it helps me calm down a little. Anger + Anger = Calm? It makes no sense, I know, but that's how it works with me. | |
| Tool – (-) Ions Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Wow... It's like no one is thinking about the poor ol' Tool songs. :( | |
| Tool – Opiate Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The_Grudge54: "Lets face it, there is no gray area in life between right and wrong. There are things that are right, and things that are wrong." I leave you with one remark. You see a man beating a small child and you act upon your impulses and kill the man in an attempt to save the child. Is it a sin? Isn’t murder a sin in most religions? I wrote much more than this, but it is almost two pages long. I won't post it. |

| Tool – Maynard's Dick Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Solely, not souly. Sorry. | |
| Tool – Eulogy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Eulogy is about leaders, whether they belong to a religion, the military, or a political party. “He had a lot to say. He had a lot of nothing to say,” is saying that all these leaders spew beliefs and morals to their followers that in the long run mean nothing because they’re someone else’s views. They yell and rant and scream what you have to believe and everyone listens to them. Anything can seem important if you say it loud enough. “But it was so loud. You sure could yell. You took a stand on every little thing. And so loud.” And if someone is barking orders and beliefs, some people are going to follow what they say simply because everyone else is. And once they get themselves caught up in all the propaganda, they fear being prosecuted for being the only one to stand up and question what is being preached. “Don’t you step out of line,” becomes they’re motto. Do as you’re told when you’re told. They follow because they’re scared, not because they believe in what is being said. Thinking for yourself and not being a blind follower is part of what Tool’s music is about. Maynard’s also taking a jab at how “believers” can so easily drift from religion. Once the one they’re currently in loses its popularity, it’s on to the next one. Yeah, it was a fun ride with all that religious stuff, but see ya! This is especially true after the leader of said group passes away. They no longer have someone to dictate what they think so they have to move on to find his replacement. “So long. We wish you well. You told us how you weren't afraid to die. Well then, so long.” Some people are so scared of being alone, that they’ll do anything and follow anything simply so they can be “accepted”. Having to think for themselves is too daunting a prospect to even consider. All they can do is pick one of today’s up and coming religions and ride its coattails. It makes them feel secure, safe. “Standing above the crowd, He had a voice so strong and loud and I Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so Eager to identify with Someone above the ground.” And like hell if Maynard’s going to fall into this. He’s basically saying if you’re not willing to die for me, then get the fuck away from the podium. Don’t you dare preach to me and the minute things get tough run away like a scared little child. And then, when all your believers turn on you, don’t act surprised. “You've claimed all this time that you would die for me. Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?” |

| Tool – Disgustipated Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think the first part is about how some ideas people preach can be so ridiculously foolish. Don’t eat the carrots! Don’t eat the carrots! They have feelings! I saw it in a dream! And you know that some John Doe dumbass is going to start a religion that bans the eating of carrots or any other vegetable with “feelings”. And then thousands of mindless followers are going to flock to the Church of the Carrot. Pathetic. The second part was indeed left by his landlord, but Maynard put it in for a reason. It’s up for interpretation. I think it’s about how the preacher probably went out and snorted cocaine while he boned a prostitute. He wakes up in a ditch next to the road and refuses to acknowledge the truth of how he got there. It just happened. Remember kids, he’s divine. He does no wrong. And that’s exactly how he sees himself, the arrogant ass. And because of that divinity, everything he sees is his. The color blue is his, the color green is his, the color red is his, and yes, all the people on the earth belong to him. I think the song is more or less a jab at religion like you find in other Tool songs. It tells the all too familiar story of a person starting a new religion, the millions of sheep getting in on it, and the uncovering of the leader’s true, immoral behaviors. |

| Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
A simple cookie recipe, the name of the cookies being The Eggs (Balls) of Satan. I agree with Makoe. It’s a test. For the first five seconds, I was a little confused. Why are there angry German’s yelling through my speakers? What the hell is going on? Then I sat back and, having taken a year of German, was able to interpret enough words to find out that it was just a recipe for something. I went online for interpretation and found out that it’s a cookie recipe. Tool was just toying with us. They’re probably having a good laugh at the kids running around saying Tool’s in on the “Nazi conspiracy” and the parents throwing shitfits because a song their child likes has Satan in the title. Just imagine, an “upstanding citizen” rights in to the paper demanding that Tool be banned from making music because they’re Neo-Nazi Satanist. If I ever saw that, I’d die laughing. I’d even write my own letter with the interpretation. You can’t ban freedom of expression, fools. And, as a sidenote, could you really make these? I’ll have to try… P.S. I'm American. I don't hate being so, but at the same time I'm not patriotic. Remember, patriotism is the belief that your country is better because YOU were born there. |

| Tool – Crawl Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is about a girl that is constantly trying to sneak out of Maynard’s life without him noticing. However, he’s completely obsessed with the girl and isn’t about to let her go, regardless of what she wants. “But what you want and what you need doesn't mean that much to me.” Then she finally decides that she’s going to get the hell out of there and Maynard is not too happy. He can’t stand the thought that she wouldn’t return his love and feels betrayed because he opened up to her only to get nothing in return. He wants revenge. “Because I can see your back is turning. If I could I'd stick the knife in.” And then, after he takes his revenge, he’s going to offer her an ultimatum. It’s him or no one and he’ll make damn sure of that. Love him or that knife just might find to that unloving little heart of hers. “Get up. Now. Say you won't go.” Fuck, I’d love him. |

| Tool – Cold and Ugly Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is about how we all try to hide who we really are under our "skin and jewelry", which signifies the superficial personality we entertain for the sake of other people. But every so often, you can catch glimpses of what's hidden beneath. "Hidden in [our] words and eyes", is signifying that no matter how much we try to deny who we are, people are still going to be able to detect bits and pieces from the way we conduct ourselves. Who we are trumps who we want to be any day. And, as the title so blatantly puts, we're afraid of all that is cold and ugly inside of us. We're afraid that if we let our true self be known, all who glance upon us would turn away in disgust. Let's face it, that's scary than Hell. Think of the pain you feel when you're manufactured personality is rejected. Now think of the pain having of your true personality rejected. And that's why we all are "trembling at the thought of feeling. Wide awake and keeping distance". Feeling such acute, pure pain would almost be too much to bear and we quiver at the very notion of it. |

| Tool – Cesaro Summability Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Just thinking of that baby screaming makes me want to wretch. I have a little brother, aged three, and two small cousins, both aged one. I couldn't imagine leaving them to cry like that. No sane person could. And that's why I think the song is about abandonment. Right after the baby crying, you can hear what sounds like someone driving away very slowly in a car. I always imagine a boyfriend and girlfriend driving away together, with the mother looking back at her poor baby. The baby her boyfriend wouldn't let her keep. Then you hear that so-soft pitter patter of the rain on pavement and it feels likes someone is tying your heart strings into knots. And like idea LordDionysius had of it being an intro to Ænema and that air of abandonment actually signifying our mother (mother nature, that is) leaving us because she can no longer watch us destroy all we have given her. |

| Tool – Bottom (Demo version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is about doing exactly what the title implies, letting yourself hit rock bottom. All your painful memories are weighing you down and keeping you there. You feel trapped and unworthy of anyone's help. I think the "enemy" can be shifted into almost any addiction you want. Drugs, alcohol, sex... whatever it is that makes you feel ugly. But, at the same time, this song has an almost hopeful air to it. It seems like Maynard wants to redeem himself, to drag himself out of his self-made affliction. All the memories of what he has done are his fuel. It drives him to do whatever it takes to make things right so that he can feel right again. "I have swallowed the poison you feed me ... but I survive on it." The line, "Making weapons out of my imperfections", is almost the same thing. It's him using his memories as weapons to fight off his enemy, or addiction. Those memories are all he "has left now". As most people who've at one time been addicted to something know, you loose so much. Friends, family, jobs, houses, children... everything. But, again as many ex-addicts know, you can climb your way back out of the hole you've dug for yourself and regain most, if not all, of what you once had. The song is filled with pain, but hopeful. |

| Tool – 4 Degrees Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is about not only letting your sexual inhibitions go, but letting all inhibitions go. We've been force-fed what is right and what is wrong our entire life and now we are no longer capable of deciding that for ourselves. We're afraid of what others will think if we give into to our carnal desires. And in this song, Maynard is trying to tell us that there's another we. We can choose to disregard what we've been told and decide for ourselves. "You won't do what you'd like to do. Lay back and let me show you another way." He's also saying that our time on this planet is too short to spend our entire lives worrying about what our neighbors will think. It's so pointless to deny yourself what you desire solely for that reason. "Take all or nothing. Life's just too short to push it away." I think the reference to anal sex is just used to get a rise out of their fans. It also helps to weed out the superficial and shallow among us. |

| Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think the very beginning of the song is a sort of satire in that it shows how believers of any religion are desperately trying to rationalize why they should be saved and escape damnation. "Listen to the tales as we all rationalize Our way into the arms of the savior." Then Maynard attacks the believers again, this time ridculing their need to be reassured of their righteousness by others. Making fun of their frantic need to have their egos pet and have themselves reassured that they're a good, God-fearing person. Then he states that he wants no part in it. "Ignorant siblings in the congregation Gather around spewing sympathy, Spare me." The second part of this song is about his mother and how he misses her, but is at the same time thankful that God has finally taken her home. She's the only person he's ever known that can go up to the Almighty Himself and demand entrance into Bliss without worrying about being repimanded. She deserves it, unlike the sinful sheep you often see in churches today. |

This song is suprisingly hypnotic and is definitely the "feel good song" off Ænima. Last night I listened to it while meditating and my mind's never been so clear. That electric zap through your head just drives all your thoughts away. All you can think about is that current. It's wonderful. After I sat there for about a half hour, I got up and started to move and everything was... different. My body felt heavier, I moved slower, and I just felt happy. As far as meanings go, I'm just spectulating, but maybe the memebers of Tool use it as their own personal feel good song. They might've been experimenting and just decided that this sounded right. For all we know, Maynard might be home right now meditating to it. |

| Tool – Maynard's Dick Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I have to agree with people when they say it's just a fuck-all, fun song. It's definitely one of my favorite Tool songs souly because of how erotic it is. It gives me that tight, coiling feeling in the pit of my stomach everytime I hear the lines: " Kinda like the way you're breathing I kinda like the way you keep looking away Would you like to glide on Slide a mile six inches at a time on Maynard's dick." Though I hate to sound shallow, those lines are definitely a turn on of mine. And I'd let Maynard have at me with 10, 560 thrusts for 3 hours, 31 minutes, and 12 seconds. A girl can dream, can't she? |
