chroniccorpse, jesuisunerocker, i think you guys are correct. to me, this is obviously about a relationship. I would suppose that this girl kept going back and forth with him, was unfaithful, dishonest, maybe flighty, fickle, he was "sick of it all," finally "told [her] off and goodbye," and he addresses her stating that the whole thing will one day haunt her, how she "didn't tell him quite the truth," how she is a "crisis, " and "icicle," a "tongueless talker," basically she makes promises or lies, she doesn't "care" what she says, and just "walks away," (this girl seems to me to be inconsistent, indecisive, cold, trying to escape feeling, is careless as a defense against true emotion, walks away when it gets to be too much, makes statements she doesn't keep up withh or her actions don't reflect). "who he thought he knew," i think this is an interesting part in a relationship where someone has betrayed you, you thought you knew them, thought them incapable of certain things, certain actions or betrayals. "last call" is about drinking, and also last call to redeem herself, last chance. it's come to the point where he's sick of her, sick of her "sound," her "coming around" trying to get even more out of him by "crawling under" his skin, when he's already made himself as vulnerable as can be. She's "won," he's "done," through, no more in him left to fight, drained because of her. then he begins to talk to himself and addresses his depression and his desire to "drink" continuously, disconnecting himself from the world. i like the line " And I'll sing the praises of my maker's name Like I was as good as she made me" here he is making the girl out as if she is his "maker," as he may have done in their relationship, elevated her beyond human, she was the one who "made" him, and he speaks as if he were as good as he were because she was with him. "i wanted her to tell me she would never wake me" this to me says never wake me from this illusion, don't disturb me, perhaps she gave him something good amidst the sickness. but she awoke him and he is now faced again with the task of waiting for sleep to overtake him. |
