"Cause nothing doesn't ever change" is supposed to be: "Cause nothing ever doesn't change" I know it's a small word flip, but it makes a big difference. ;-) (And paired with the next line, they are my favorite of the song) |

Ok, first off this is my most favorite song ever. No other song has ever come close. It started off as just a song I loved when I was 8 that eventually spiraled me into Elton John fandom. But it then became something personal when I turned 18 and my boyfriend (now husband) and I decided to go to two different colleges that were 6 hours apart. However, to this day I the harmonica, piano and lyrics always draw me in. I believe the song was written (yes, lyrically by Bernie Taupin, but I believe on request by Elton) for Elton's bride, Renate Blauel in 1984. I believe for when Elton was on tour as it is about being seperated from the one you love by circumstances. I could be wrong about that, but I thought I read it in his biography. On the other hand, that was several years ago. |
