The impossibility to set fire to rain speaks a great deal to me. Though the situation may have been impossible she made it possible. Often I feel like we do these things in order to feel loved in our life. We ignore the obvious and somehow make it true anyways. |

When you say I love you it is usually paired with “and I always will”. Yet when you say I don’t love you it subsides with “and I never will”. To me this song speaks of a relationship that can never really be, a situation where your feelings can potentially harm someone or distance you when that is the last thing you could ever want. This song is filled with antithesis potentially describing the fear of losing that other person. I think when the say I don’t love you they are attempting to protect both themselves and the other yet think or mutter under their breath the “I always will”. I think the “I wish you’d hold me when I turn my back” could also hit at this. This could be a point where one shuts themselves off toward the other yet all they really want is to be held and possibly share just a moment of what could never be. The situation could possibly be an affair which could explain “your hands can heal, your hands can bruise”. Though you may seek the comfort of their hands, the comfort is very equivalent to a bruise. The less that is shared is the less vulnerable they could possibly be. “I don’t have a choice but I still choose you.” Beautiful…. And I just realized someone else has said the exact same thing. Haha oh well! |
