| I've thought about this song some more and I think I understand why he switches to the name Danny at the end. It ties together with the refrain, where he says "if he just knew my name." My theory is that the boy who's in love with "Jesse" doesn't actually know his name. Later, he learns his real name, Danny, and begins to use that. | |

There's a mistake in the lyrics. It's not "a girl named Chelsea." It's "a girl in Chelsea," like the neighborhood in New York and London. I think most of the comments so far are wrong. He is NOT in love with a straight guy. Jesse is in the closet. The most important line in the song is: "But every time he smiles at me I know we are the same." And when the woman's voice comes in, it talks about "the life they chose for me." It's about how society pressures gay people to pretend they're straight and the tragedy of a gay guy loving a guy he can't have because the guy is in the closet. |
