Deftones – Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event Lyrics 15 years ago
I would like to point out that the title of the song is a reference to the poet Oscar Wilde, who was quoted saying "Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event."

Frankly, it doesn't make sense that Chino would use all the metaphor in his other music and then write one song that's as literal as so many people have interpreted it to be. I think it's probably about something besides death; Chino is not so poor a poet as to use the word "deathbed" to mean, literally, a deathbed. Consider the nature of the Oscar Wilde quote in the context of the lyrics; I'd say it's more about dealing with the passing of time and losing passion.

And if much of the interpretations I read on this site were true, just about every single song ever written by Chin is about death/the end of a relationship/sex. And Chino's life probably just isn't that interesting, considering as he's spent the majority of it either touring or in the studio writing music. Ask any professional musician; it's a lot more tedious and boring than people think it is. Chino is no exception (the recent tragedy notwithstanding).

Dntel – Breakfast in Bed Lyrics 18 years ago
wishful thinking here...

having been very surprised to hear conor doing a song with jimmy, I was enamored by this track initially, and whilst walking home from work I was listening to it and noticed that at no point in the song does conor specify that the subject is actually a girl, and if you look at the fourth verse, it makes a certain amount of sense. the whole context of the situation makes sense, both of them being drunk, one of them being somewhat suicidal, maybe having just confessed their love for him, but he knows it's not possible.

keep in mind, I don't assume that every song without a "her" in it means that it's about two guys. but having listened to this track a lot, i just naturally feel that way about it. and i'm definitely not in any way saying that conor is doing guys on the side or anything, i'm simply hearing a different story in this song, regardless of whether it's from conor's point of view or someone else's. (though one of Conor's closest buddies, Andy LeMaster, is both gay and a vegan...)
