| Mystikal – Still Smokin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Lyrics are wrong. He says "Easy Widers" in the beginning. Not "Easy Water." Easy Widers are a brand of rolling papers known for being very wide, for which to roll hoglegs. Everything he lists at the beginning of the song is for rolling joints. | |
| They Might Be Giants – We Want A Rock Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song describes three groups; the speaker identifies with two of them. There are those who want a piece of string and a rock to wind the string around (X), those who want prosthetic foreheads on their real heads (Y), and the unknown group (Z). Z does not exist, and is a manifestation of a paranoid delusion. X = Y = Everyone. Nobody wants to burn down neither the foreheads nor the playhouse. X and Y are afraid that if the crib doors open, they will allow Z in, who will in turn burn down their playhouse and/or foreheads. If you re-read the song, you will note that Z can NOT exist, for Z would be included in both X and Y. To paraphrase, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Also, it may be noteworthy that in some cultures, crib = house. It may be TMBG's take on P-Funk's BURN DOWN THE HOUSE. |

| Stone Temple Pilots – Creep Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song's meaning is unlocked by paying close attention to the first verse. It is a song written in the first person perspective of the mouse in Hickory Dickory Dock. Forward yesterday - He's speaking about after midnight, and the clock's progression to one. Makes me wanna stay - Because it's easier to stay than to run up the clock. What they said was real - The endless progression of day and night. Makes me wanna steal - Because all a mouse eats is either stolen or discarded. Livin' under house - Though probably more likely to live in a wall, the author pens to the next clue: Guess I'm livin', I'm a mouse - Existential, introspective. All's I gots is time - A mouse has no possessions, but he's running up and down the clock. Got no meaning, just a rhyme - Hickory Dickory Dock. |

| Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
First of all, the song's about Jesus. Get over any other ideas you might have. The only thing I even half-disagree with PemTea on is the tree reference. I think it might be a double-meaning; one about the cross and one about when Zachariah went up the tree to see Him. That's probably a stretch anyway. Secondly, do you athiests with obvious "daddy issues" regarding God need to STOP. If this song was about anything other than Jesus and someone went into any book other than the Bible to explain exactly what the song is about, you would have applauded; but because someone who BELIEVES what the song is about to be TRUE explained the subject matter as such, a bunch of people decided to get their panties in a wad. |

| Modest Mouse – She Ionizes and Atomizes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Oh man. Every time I hear a Modest Mouse album with friends, doesn't really matter which album, I say to them, "Oh, this is my favorite song." Three songs later, I say it again. Sometimes the next song. MM is my favorite band EVAR. I got a tattoo of a hot air balloon with an anchor instead of a carriage. :D | |

BY FAR my favorite Mercury Rev song. Creepy almost. Every time I see a picture of Abe Lincoln I hear this song in my head. |

| Ween – Cold Blows The Wind Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Actually, this is The Unquiet Grave is a bit different: The wind that blows today my love a few small drops of rain Never have I had but one true love in cold place she is laid I'll do as much for my true love as any young man may I'll sit and mourne all on her grave at twelve month and a day The twelve month and the day been gone a voice spoke from the deep who is it sits all on my grave and will not let me sleep It's I, it is I thine own true love who sits upon your grave for I crave one kiss from your sweet lips and that is all I see You crave one kiss from my clay cold lips but my breath is earthy strong had you one kiss from my clay cold lips your time would not be long My time be long my time be short tommorrow or today may god in heaven have all my soul but I'll kiss your lips of clay See down beyond the garden green laught where we used to walk the sweetest flower that ever grew is whitered to the stork The stork is whitered dry my love so will our hearts decay so make yourself content my love till death calls you away |

| Modest Mouse – Heart Cooks Brain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It says the brain IS the cliff. Not the actual act of being driven to death. The brain is only the device which is killing the heart (Buffalo). Because the cliff is an inanimate object, it's not conscious that it's killing the buffalo. The heart is conscious that the brain will be the death of it, but there's nothing to be done. I recently went through a rough breakup and still think that this song is about that sort of situation. "I push things out through my mouth I get refilled through my ears" How you spill your guts to your friends, then they give you little anecdotes like "Other fish in the sea..." My brain could logically make sense of the situation, realizing that I'm better off without a controlling, manipulative user in my life, but my heart still felt for her, and couldn't understand why she'd say such mean things about me. My heart would keep yearning for turning back the clock and making it all better, but my brain knew that A) that can't be done and B) I'm still better off without her. But the thoughts were cooking my brain. Stay awake at night wondering who she's shacking up with, wondering why she'd say such things I know she doesn't mean, wondering how she could be so cold to someone who did so much for her, etc. So my brain was the victim of my heart's torment. After having gone through that, I'm wary to trust anyone. My bitter heart wants to love someone else, but my brain (being the cliff it is) has cut that off, leaving my heart to suffer. That's just what it means to me though. :) |

| Melvins – At The Stake Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Read other Melvins lyrics. I agree with whoever else said it's not about the lyrics. HOWEVER. This song obviously talks about judgment and punishment... and centers around witches. I also hear Flames are all I see and Now they're gonna burn me Take all my flesh away... BUT. I don't think it's so much he's shrouding the song in mystery as that he's just saying some minacing-ass stuff to lend to the furious/distraught nature of the song. Forgive my spelling. |

| Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I can't believe nobody has mentioned this before... but right after the song ends, you can hear Isaac saying as if to himself, "I fucked up that last line." But the last line was the same as every other mention of it in the song. So what's the deal? Anyone? |

| Belle & Sebastian – Belle and Sebastian Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
You know how there's this feeling in the world now that if you don't find a significant other by the time you reach middle-age you'll be alone forever? I think that's what the first two verses are about. Finding food is finding a "solemate" which is becoming more and more far-fetched with the ease of internet communication and less and less face-to-face communication. The third verse is about spinning your wheels; realizing you're wasting your time doing something that started out as a hobby but now you just do it out of boredom, and now you're not getting paid for it, not enjoying yourself, etc. The last verse is in contrast to the previous three showing that when you're young, anything can be fun. We grow old and our senses become numb to virtually everything enjoyable. Not that I don't agree with almost everyone's take on the song... This may even be a regurgitation of one such take. |

| Interpol – Not Even Jail Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Cluelesstraveler, can't a song mean different things to different people? Especially with Interpol. Sometimes I think their songs don't mean a thing in the world. Sometimes I just think he sings something that sounds good. (i.e. "feeling real tan," or "Her stories are boring and stuff") I'm not saying I don't LOVE this band, I'm just saying that I have too much fun reading what different people get out of different songs. Also, whatever something means to someone, let it mean that to them. Nothing wrong with differing opinions... |

| Interpol – Evil Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Copied from wikipedia.org: "Evil" was played in the episode "Shake Your Groove Thang" (1-05) of the TV show Grey's Anatomy. Pays homage to the film Rosemary's Baby. (Not officially confirmed). Also references British serial killer housewife Rosemary West Although the "Rosemary" in the lyrics may be a reference to a road in Clacton-on-Sea, birthplace of Paul Banks). The video was #25 on Yahoo!'s Top 25 Scariest Videos. |

| Interpol – Evil Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I've heard someone say that the song is actually about Rosemary West, a serial killer. Maybe Sandy was one of her victims? | |
| Pavement – Here Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Every song I've ever heard by Pavement is good. I can't say the same for any single ALBUM by the Pixies. They have good songs here and there, but as far as putting together a better complete album, Pavement pwnz Pixies IMHO. | |
| Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It says SAINTS, not Angels. Also, the song is, "in your CHAIRS," plural. It doesn't sound like they're trying to take God's place to me. I think Isaac is saying that even saints sell out. Don't forget the lines leading up to it, either, which may provide a good clue: "It was a staple of brass tacks and waxed backs," probably in reference to the cosmetic and metrosexual upper-class beach-residing men of the states known for their beaches. Maybe these are the "saints" of whom he's speaking? Or maybe he's speaking of an upheaval of this type of bourgeoisies. |
