The Classic Crime – The Beginning (A Simple Seed) Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with you, phy54. At first I thought the "I always seem to let her go" was referring to the Holy Ghost, but then I realized that he's actually talking about the girl he's in a relationship with.

"But if my whole life was wrapped and priced,
I wonder what the tag would show.
'Cause every time I'm close to the holy ghost,
I always seem to let her go."
I think that he is evaluating his life, and as part of it, his relationship with the girl, and realizing he's not in the right in place. When he does get close to the holy spirit, he lets the girl go. So, in getting closer to God, he must have found that she was not right for him.
Of course, all of that is based on two lines lol... so I'm not really sure how the rest of the song fits in :)

the band isn't "Christian"... that's just a label. But that doesn't mean that members of the band aren't Christians, and that religious themes aren't reflected in their music... it's nice that you didn't totally bash sonicemerald for interpreting the song the way that he sees it though, skater...

Personally, I think this song is about letting himself and his way of thinking die...
"no longer living a lie"
I don't think that's saying that he wants to physically die, but that he wants his lifestyle, and his way of living to die... letting die the part of him that is a lie, so that a true, meaningful life can be born.

?=that hindsight :)
And I think that the chorus is "swimming in memories" ...not in "no more reefs"

As for the meaning, I just think it has to do with wishing time hadn't gone by so fast... "Now we are swimming in memories, how we wish we could go back"

I don't know...

Just a couple of changes:

The chorus is "Give me your poison pills 'cause I'm digging my star-crossed grave tonight"
And I'm pretty sure it ends with "No longer living a lie"

Verse 2 starts with "I've got every good reason"
And the last line is "Hang my head..."

I'm pretty sure about those corrections.

As far as meaning, I think that it's pretty easy to say that this song is about suicide. But, like a lot of TCC songs, it's open to some crazy interpretations and I'm sure something else will come up.

Oh, and also, more fitting with the suicide theme, I think the last line of the first verse is "I WON'T be putting up a fight" ...it kinda sounds like it too :)

that's what I thought at first too, matchbox... but if you listen carefully, it does say "fearfully"

I think this song is basically about how, no matter how much we put in to life, we all go out the same. It doesn't matter who we are or what kind of name we've made for ourselves, life ends the same for us all. In the end, all that's left for people to see is our physical bodies

The opening lines, in my opinion, are saying that we can go from life to death so quickly and easily. One moment we're here, the next, we're not.

That's what I take from the song... although I don't understand all of it completely. But TCC is incredible! I can't wait to hear what else they have for us on The Silver Cord!!

The way that I see this song is that it's about living for the right things...

"So here's to the promise of glamorous living..."
This is about the world's view of success... getting all the things that you want.
"You must drink up now, cause it's all that you're getting."
All the things on earth will fade away... if your possessions here are your real treasures, then take what you can get while you're alive, because there will be no reward for you in heaven.

"The long hauling trucks are parked in their stops..."
I think these trucks refer to people who have everything they want ...
"...just like luminous ghosts of something that once was. The rigs all look so empty when framed by their lights."
...these people used to have real value in heavenly things, but now their "lights" (things that they have) have left them empty and useless (that's why they're parked). These trucks are meant to do much more, but they carry nothing on the inside, so they have no value. What's the point of driving a truck if there's nothing to deliver?

I think this song is just about putting value in the right things, and not getting caught up in the world.
