Well i dont think MY thoughts are needed here. Everyone else has read through and REALLy interpreted this song, so what i'd want to say would be obsolete right about now. LOL But, wat i do wanna say is that i LOVE this song, no doubt. The intro is one of the koolest EVER, and really pumps me UP. When i saw TOOL in Corpus Cristi Tx, this was the one of the last songs they played... "SPIRAL OUT, KEEP GOIN, SPIRAL OUT...." DAMN, IT WAS LOUD AND VERY MOVING. JUST AWESOME. TheGrimJacket , you summed it pretty well. I was amazed at this song the first time i heard it. I bought the album thinking that the best songs were VICARIOUS and THE POT..then i heard THIs song. I realized that i had underestimated TOOL, and that this song ROCKSS lyrically and musically (sorry i couldnt think of a better word). Its about the angels' perspectives of us humans, here on Earth. They pity us "silly monkeys" and further more, they question God for giving us our thumbs and minds. For, all they see is what we've been doing, and they couldn't be more disappointed. All in all, its a GREAT SONG. and I dont think anything else can top it. |

HEY ARCOIRIS!! I duno what youre talkin about, Mr rainbow, but man, i think youre crossing the line of SONG MEANINGS. The meaning is actually simple, and not that difficult to believe. MJKs mom died afte about 27 years of paralysis. Hence the album name "10,000 Days". I heard the song at least 11 times before i REALLY understood it. His voice, and the awesome crescendos give me chills to this day. "You're the only one who can hold your head up high, Shake your fists at the gates saying: "I've come home now! Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now! My time now! Give me my, give me my wings!" My eyes got watery when i heard AND read this verse. He's telling his mom to basically demand her WELL DESEREVED spot in heaven with God. He's telling her to "hold [her] head up high" and GET her WINGS!!! Its a beauty of a rock song, and in a league of its own. Anyone who hears it (enough) wont be able to deny how emotionally CHARGED the song gets. You, simply , FEEL for the guy. I mean C'MON, imagine if it was YOUR mother...you should have a little more sympathy more Maynard, and respect for his mother. |

damn its about TIME i get an account here. well anyways, this song is BADASS. just as well as all the other metallica songs. AWESOME. the guitar's intro sounds so KOOL in the beginng. kinda creepy, but powerful. |
