First I would like to point out that this is the first online discussion I have ever read where everyone is mature, polite, and even though we don't all agree...we get our opinions out there and people are able to view them and make their own judgments without the ridiculous replies that seem to follow on websites. Back to the song: That is what makes this particular song so great, it has multiple meanings to everyone. For those of us struggling with our mundane life's, our party habits, girls/boys, hurts and pains, and even suicide...this song has a special a meaning to each of those types of people. For me, it is mostly about how life sucks and the only escape perceivable is suicide. I see it as a small story of a person struggling to handle life...eventually leading to self destructive behavior. Then: good job for cutting lengthwise (if you cut side to side, you will have a hard time dying), the lyrics are saying that he is happy that this person was able to end his life effectively. apheresisrose brings up a VERY good point about cutting lengthwise means to cut that paper and break free from whatever it is in this persons life that is brining them down (girl/boy, job, drugs/alcohol, etc). Gotta love this song though. |
