you know...
there's something to be said for interpreting the song more literally...
STD's being the obvious solution. I don't actually think that's the case but it would be a much funnier song that way :) |

| The Mars Volta – Viscera Eyes Lyrics
|
I thought that "Viscera eyes" meant that the priest or whomever the subject of this song may be is being criticized for an inability to look past the flesh, Viscera here being like "Visceral", the real or tangible things, ones that can be reached out and touched, suggesting a false religiousness typically attributed to catholic customs and ceremony. this interpretation is all the more wonderful for the irony of having a representative of a group that claims to be based around a non-tangible God, without actually listening to him at all. the idea of Viscera eyes here is a reference to his inability to see anything beyond his own wants and desires
so that's the title sorted out :P |

I thought I'd also mention that I believe the "Page of concrete to be a point regarding his capacity to make a mark on the world, his page (possibly like a "will") has been written on, would also suggest that the "curse that flew right by you" could be the screaming of the driver of the vehicle which hit him, i feel that could be supported by the idea that he "should have SEEN" the curse, as one would when the one speaking it is in the car, the sound prevented from escaping but still able to percieved by lip-reading through the windscreen, I think the fact that he should have seen it is a reference to the point that Julio didn't think of the impact he would have on the people around him, in this case just the driver of the car but also possibly extended to the rest of his friends including the band. |

I loved the line "one day this chalk outline will circle this city" such a great way to say that the whole world is (in Julio's opinion) just as screwed up as Julio himself is, but that society is taking a slower suicide. I like the line, though the meaning isn't necessarily one I'd agree with |

| Taking Back Sunday – Twenty-Twenty Surgery Lyrics

I have to say I thought it was better when the lyric was "twenty twenty surgery for TWO" instead of "cheap", that way it was about the disillusionment left over after realising that the "love is blind" attitude has ended, and two people realize that they just aren't meant for each other. emo as all hell, but a nice way of saying it. |

| Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band – Ant Man Bee Lyrics

but what about the bee? is the bee a revolutionary? a great innovator? Captain Beefheart himself even? perhaps anyone who seeks peace etc. is considered a bee? (60's remember!) I think this is implying that there are two kinds of people, I don't think it is Van Vliet himself, but rather that he is undecided, perhaps the bee is a hypothetical person |
