Muse – Butterflies and Hurricanes Lyrics 15 years ago
"...but maybe its suggesting a future society where we will all have numbers, and will have to struggle against each other to 'be the best.'"

I'm pretty sure that's right now in a US capitalist society at least (odds are in the UK too). We've got social security numbers. A number that is our identity on all official forms, basically.

Can I just say I feel really relieved that I'm not the only one that didn't realize the singer was a man? I also thought this song was about lesbians (because I thought the singer was female,) and I agree with strawberryforever that if the song was about lesbians, it would be a much powerful song.

Oh well...

I always thought this song had to do with lust and the question of, "Is it/will it ever be love?"

"You’re asking me will my love grow,
I don’t know, I don’t know.
You stick around now it may show,
I don’t know, I don’t know."

I thought that meant something along the lines of "Maybe this lust I feel will flourish into something more. Maybe love."

Am I the only one who thinks this?
