| i'm studying to be a doctor and i end up feeling this frequently. I'm not sure that's what Thom means "success" but more fullfillness | |

I interpreted the song more or less like you. and i was lost with the last line too. but now I think the dirty mind is those desires "that wish we though we needed" that leads to nothing. You end up wishing for something you don't want and you'll go to hell for that (you're gonna suffer since there's nothing you really want or nothing you really get) yeah pessimistic that's my way of seeing it |

I agree with most of you but i think that it wasn't the drinking problem that caused the hate but the other way around. The hate (not being able to have a real connection) leads him to drink. About the other side i think it's the ideal localization. either after death or that "happy place" you try to reach all your life |

i don't think this song can be anti any religion. I actually think that is a believe in something kind of song! so here's my view: the begining is kind of obvious, it's Billie Joe asking to put your actions into prespective, if it's worth fight or even dying for them (it can be about everything but it really points to war "Does the pain weigh out the pride? and you look for a place to hide?") the second part is about the tiredness, exhaustion, confusion you get from all that bullshit. You even lose yourself in the process- you're in ruins the third fraction is more open to interpretation i guess... You wanted to take action by yourself - US going to war; When you burned down the house and home - (i really like this line) US killing etc not only the place and people but the country as a "home" US ended up caught in the fire "Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone" (another amazing line)and i think we should look first at "like a liar looking for forgiveness" - where we can see that when we lie we should look for forgiveness right? but then, why the hell are you a liar? and afterwards billie exagerates this when he ads "from a stone" meaning it's really fucking useless and really fucking stupid! So, what i get from it is that war is an option but it's pointless this is the conclusion America screwed up going to war, din't "live and let die" and it wont't get another try. So, something died. Now the chorus: one 21 guns - since the 21 guns are fired in the soldires's funerals it means that one by one the soldiers are dying. It's time for the war to end. throw up your arms into the sky - this is what makes me say this song is "pro-religion". ok it may be a sign of desperation but it can also be a sign of turning to your beliefs. As I get a warmer feeling from the second one, I tend to it. |

| Placebo – Twenty Years Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i think the title resumes it all, this song is about what can happen in 20 years and it can be applied in almost every person or situation, (only that makes this song intense) There are twenty years to go, And twenty ways to know, Who will wear, Who will wear the hat. you'll probably don't know who is or who will be controling your life even if you have the facts and the present in your hand, even if in fact you can know But then, in 20 years you should know who is controling or who will be controling your life. and i thin its exactly that he is saying: you have 20 ways to know who will wear the hat.. i like to think of it as being an actual possibility that you can know, that you can even take control. (there's also the possibility of not being about each life but abot a situation or event, the same interpretation applies but i prefer to see it as my life, it gives me a deeper meaning) There are twenty years to go, The best of all I’d hope, Enjoy the ride, the medicine show i think it's self explanatory, there's hope, the 20 years can be good (medicine helps) Them’s the breaks, For we designer fakes, We need to concentrate on more than meets the eye. if you're thinking 20 years, you shouldn't fake yourself, you should concentrate on more than meets the eye (the words "for we designer fakes" make me chill) about them's the breaks i think is the difficulties for the designer fakes (how you stop every time and end up not living) There are twenty years to go, The faithful and the low, The best of starts; the broken heart; the stone. There are twenty years to go, The punch-drunk and the blow, The worst of starts; the mercy part; the phone. he tells us what can happen or what happened before maybe to those who are designers fakes now with the "you're the truth, not I"... i don't realy know =X maybe he found someone who meets these expectations There are twenty years to go, A golden age, I know, But all will pass will end to fast, you know There are twenty years to go, And many friends I’d hope, Though some may hold the rose, some hold the rope. now he becomes more positive i guess.. there's the possibility of a golden age, but as everything the 20 years will end faster then you'd want. along that time you will find people, friends, some will give beauty to your life some won't. That’s the end and that’s the start of it, That’s the whole and that the part of it, That’s the high and that’s the heart of it, That’s the long and that’s the short of it, That’s the best and that’s the test of it, That’s the doubt; doubt the trust in it, That’s the sight and that’s the sound of it, That’s the gift, that’s the trick in it. than he gives us some opposites that will take place, or that you will feel during that period of time you'll have good and bad things and there comes "you're the truth not i" =P i think this song talks about the future, the possibility of something more good than bad. |

i agree with pnaomi and, as an implication, he uses his voice instead of the guitar making it little this song is phenomenal (the beat is their way to make a stand. they´re saying they´re keeping in the little room or at least trying) |

here goes my interpretation of this song her name was truth but she was a horrible liar. society gives names opposite to the reallity usually only connected to the outter and most superficial appearence forgetting about the essence. Those who have those names think of themselves being that way even if they're not. that takes them to make things and ask for things that aren't what they need, as so they will never be satisfied. They can´t reach what they need maybe because they don´t know what that is. she has everything she asks for (mostly things she doesn't need) and, that can be lost easly. it makes no sense trying to achieve everytinhg if in that sarch we lose it all. she made herself a bed of nails, and she's planning on putting it to use. i thnk that is like the consequence of what's behind, the only way of survivng in this environment is becoming nails... i don't know if that meens shallow and superficial or if that means meen and angry, maybe both. she plans on using it to survive but i think BH gives the idea that she can't because she has diamonds in the inside , she is superior. to me diamonds are only related to the beauty, i can't include the meaning of a hard rock. i think this song is all about the inner beauty contrasting with what society can makes your outter appearence into, even if you're good on th inside. A candle throws its light into the darkness In a nasty world so shines a good deed Make sure the fortune that you seek Is the fortune that you need Tell me why the first to ask Is the last to give every time What you say and do not mean Follows you close behind it is showing the same ideas. a little shine (diamonds on the inside) in a nasty world is a great thing. but now he is trying to give us the solutions to not fall in th things that she would have if she hadn't diamonds on th inside: we must search only for what we need; we should think of giving even if we don't think of asking, the so called giving without expecting something in return (its a proverb here in portugal =P);we must say what we feel, and what we are, don't hide anything don't lie about anything. Like the soldier long standing under fire Any change comes as a relief Let the giver's name remain unspoken She is just a generous thief now he is talking about his own expectations: he is under this fire (the influences of the society) for a long time and he sees everyone being sucked into this machine. as so, a small change is a relief. let the giver's name remain unspoken once he is not expecting anytinhg, he is just a generous thief. I agree as this being an oximeron and i think it resumes the whole song.we must be generous, giving without expecting even if the society directs us to being thiefs(asking for everytinhg even if we don't deserve it, even if we don't need it, giving nothing in return) |

| The White Stripes – 300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think this song is about the 3 persons that jack can be...(3 paths that he can take) "Well, there's three people in the mirror and I'm wonderin' which one of them I should choose" and this will be a eternal question for him... on the first side he has love... but he can't be sure (maybe because of those "red-headed women that I ain't supposed to kiss And it's that color that never fails to turn me blue"): "But you're holding tight to it -- the answer singin' these three hundred mile per hour outpour blues the two other people can be the victim and the fool.. Then, he finishes thinking about the million of ashes (death people) that don't mean anything anymore.... and he wonders if he'll be different and if he will still have to choose his path. "But I can't help but wonder if after I'm gone will I still have these three hundred mile per hour, finger breaking, no answers makin', battered dirty hands, bee stung and busted up, empty cup torrential outpour blues" About the end of the song.. i'm not sure (i'm not sure abou all of it) One thing's for sure: in that graveyard I'm gonna have the shiniest pair of shoes it can be related to "walk in your shoes" and he is just admiring is own life.. maybe he is talking about is own sucess. or it can be related to money.. and it can be like a irony.. that he will be rich.. but death.. and that won't mean anything... well i don't know if what i'm saying is even logic =P |
