It's quite obvious this song is referring to politics in the US.
"No nuclear the cowboy told us " is obviously referring to President Bush.
The whole take away my right to choose if referring to legalizing abortion. And the right to speak well, I don't see how that's been taken away. But this is obviously some big political commentary on the Conservative congress (now it's very liberal) and government at the time this song was written. |

I guess I now know why this song touched me. I was sexually abused when I was younger and the words "the kind of murder where nobody dies" really stood out. I kind felt in a way, that she sort of knew what I went through, so yes, I agree with the sexual abuse theory. |

I watched an interview with her on YouTube and apparently the meaning comes from her obsession with the Victorian and it's depicting how the women must have felt while in the asylums. |
