This song sounds like a reference to Aldeous Huxley's "Brave New World" to me. The novel is set in the future where everyone takes a drug that keeps everyone calm and controlled essentially. The reality of their dull hell is not realized until one person finds leaks in their "system" of living. The lines "the medicine is all we need" and "in our funny little homes we're really quite alone" are definitely indicative of the reference. |

I'm not sure exactly what the term "Shevanel Cut a Flip" means but Tommy mentions Shevanel and Plip in the song Mordecai (also an amazing song). On the website Tommy explains that Shevanel and Plip were a homeless person and his pet that he had met in some city that looked like the saddest, poorest beings on the planet but actually were some of the happiest beings that he had ever met. He is referring to Shevanel in the title of this song because even though he may have a sad reality, his dreams could be everything he ever wanted and perhaps that was why Shevanel seemed so happy. |

I wholeheartedly agree with Tommy's lyrics. It is horrible to know that this kind of thinking still exists in today's society, but it does and it runs rampant at times. If I were closer to Topeka I would confront the blasphemers. |

Although this song is very vague and seems quite lyrically general to me, I believe that the main meaning in this song is that the narrator is in a terrible state at the moment. He is in constant turmoil and angst and he needs a way to escape, to "go home." It seems to me that the singer is talking about suicide here when describing this "place where I won't be missed," but I could be wrong. |
