I kind of feel like this song might be about Vanessa Carlton. It could be about anyone, and he has written songs about Charlize Theron in the past. And he cheated on Vanessa or whatever, while he was touring, getting blown by the girls who are "happy just to see him". And the whole "Why can't you be Like an outsourced government contract/I'm a fat cat gettin' away with anything". He doesn't want her getting mad at him for things, even if she should. Also, she's so much younger than he is, it would make sense for him to tell her that he was her first truest love... I mean, it would be kind of presumptuous to say that unless the person was a lot more inexperienced. |

I agree with what Soundboy says about the camera. The way that Conor addresses it, "just wishing so bad that it held some kind of truth", implies that it doesn't hold any truth. And then he compares flowers to TVs which suggests the shallow way that we view images through technology, when it is really not equivalent to the real thing. Also, in "Road to Joy", he says: I hope I don’t sound too ungrateful What history gave modern man A telephone to talk to strangers Machine guns and a camera lens". Comparing the machine gun to the camera lens. I don't think he likes cameras. |
