Written by Neil Peart in 1979, recorded by Rush, inspired by CFNY: "As for The Spirit of Radio — it was written about CFNY and all that we stood for - I was told that by the band and management before the album was released. At that time Rush and their manager discussed with me that there would be no reference officially to CFNY as it could stop other radio stations from playing the track. As a fan and supporter of Rush I agreed that would be the best plan. If you still have a vinyl disc you will find that in the centre grooves you will find the album master number is 1021." - David Marsden, August 2001 |

| The Lovin' Spoonful – Darling Be Home Soon Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song reminds me of when I'm home from work and my husband comes walking through the door. I'm (usually) so happy to see him... to talk... to reconnect with each other. In our busy lives, we only have so much time for each other, so those little moments mean a lot. The song, I believe, also examines how wonderful it is to finally find someone to connect with: "And I see that the time spent confused, Was the time that I spent without you," We feel so empty until we finally find that one special person we can be ourselves with. |

| This is partly a tribute to the former Toronto FM station, CFNY 102.1, the "Spirit of Radio" (their tagline.) I was a teenager growing up listening to CFNY circa 1980-86. There was nothing else like it on Toronto airwaves, if not in all of North America. The DJs basically played what they liked - New Wave, Punk, New World Music, etc., and a lot of Brittish stuff. It stood in great contrast to all of the other FM "Rock" stations, at times appearing seemingly amateurish, yet intellectual at the same time. I can not adequately descibe the wonderful feelings I would have, as a teenager, discovering some great obscure song that they would start playing. It was like a breath of fresh air putting that station on in the mornings. I gather that that is what Neil Peart felt when he would put it on -it was just such a contrast to all of the other stations, where it was the same top 40 songs with stupid contests all of the time.
