I took the line in the middle to mean she changed but he hasn't. They met young, got close, had fun, and either the relationship progressed or they got older and she started to look toward the future "good schools, friends with pools" while he was perceiving the relationship as fun and free. Now he's torn concerning whether or not she changed too suddenly or he didn't grow up fast enough. They are contras, but it's unclear who is in the wrong or if they just went their separate ways. He's also having a hard time holding it against her. |

I don't think she dumped him I think she may have considered staying together I mean if they were together and he had no job no reason he couldn't go overseas with her. the line "during the fight I said yeah right when you inssited that i'd visit that you'd write." makes it sound like he was just willing to let go even though they could still work something out. |

Maybe that line about fornication crimes and then seen it on TV is a reference to televangelist like Billy Swaggart who are are holy and then get caught up in sex scandals and exposed. Could go along with that sort of repressing feels other people talked about. Like Freud said, if you repress some desire you have it may be expressed as the opposite I forget what it's called... Reaction Formation Theory? So ie. if you are a skeezy guy you may deal with it by being outwardly chaste/a religious figure. |

I think someone touched on it but I think that main repeat verse is just her thinking about a friend who got in with the popular crowd and got away from her. She wants that girl to stop with the cell phone and the driving and just come have a sleepover in the living room. I think subject/gender stuff is up for debate too but that's my read. |

Yeah I think the easy read is the abusive father, though I guess it could mean something different to everyone. I didn't pick up right away that it was the father so I thought that second kid was a reference to something the guy did after he assaulted her but now that I realize it's the father I agree with the majority interpretation. I mean I guess it could be only a kidnapping but it seems that is to deny the obvious. |

yeah i definitely get the lady vibe from that where the singer is the "nice guy" friend who wants to treat her right but sort of loses her. Reminds me of that really crappy movie i see on comedy central where the guy waits outside the girls window all month and then finally leaves and she comes back to talk to him but then he's not there that one time. It ends happily so sort of different. |

This artist is obviously brilliant so I don't feel bad being way off here. But, it seems like it could show some progression of time through a relationship where he failed to act. The time ebbs and flows sort of and 55 is noting an older age where some things have passed by. The armchair is the sort of thing an older person would sit in after retirment or in old age, it calls to them. |
