The song is pretty self-explanatory. Some cops shot her husband/partner. She's out for revenge and then she's on the lam (running from the law for the kids who don't know). |

| R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts Lyrics

Like everyone else is saying, it's pretty self-explanatory. It's a song telling the listeners that everybody becomes depressed or messed up at one time or another and that we're all experiencing the human condition together. Love will get us through and help us live a virtuous life. |

The song is greatly influenced by "Fairytale of NY". Their whole band is greatly influenced by The Pogues as is almost every other Celt Punk band. I wouldn't say that it's a rip-off though. There are major differences in the song. This is more of a drinking tune whereas Fairytale is a ballad. Plus, this is about a relationship with a barmaid. |

| Rancid – Nihilism Lyrics

Hehe. 1st off, "nihilism" is the disbelief in all or most philosophies or the belief that there is no meaning, whether it be intrinsic or objective. Research Ivan Turgenev (or is it Turgenov?). It's also spoken of as being an obstacle people must deal with philosophically. Nietzsche touches on this. Existentialists like him view life as having no inherant meaning, so we are left to create it.
Anarchism is the political view that embraces freedom from the state. There are many schools of thought that embrace it. Thoroughly research the site infoshop.org and the books it talks about.
It is not exactly synonymous with chaos.
Now, the song is pretty self-explanatory if you know the meaning of nihilism. It's about seeing through feelings that make you feel that nothing matters.
Look at dlb1980's post also. |

It's about his nomadic street kid life and the angst it caused. He's "absent from political authority" because he has nothing to lose. He's just some street punk with practically no identity.
People were dying all around him... shit happened.
When he says "sometimes the lion share ain't there"
he means that sometimes he's left without a meal or maybe drugs whether it would've been stolen, given, or sold to him. |

True, just look at lines like "...When the field's 'wide open'..." It has a double meaning.
Big L is a guy that doesn't seem to be doing too well in "the race" of life, but he has a heart of gold, and that's what matters. |

It's just a song about relentless anger. A sort of pounding of one's chest. It's not really done in an "I'm better than you" way, it's more about taking up for yourself. This song is basically a middle finger to whom it may concern. FallenAngelPunk has it right. |

Well, they are screaming on this song. Brody doesn't scream on every song, but on this one, it's obvious. |

I'm not sure if this was said because I didn't read all the comments (too many just saying how great the band is and saying nothing constructive), but the song is about the pipedream that is LA obviously. She's had a bad experience with the city. She's had problems with drugs, poverty, rape (I'm almost sure), etc. |

It's been said, and it's pretty obvious that this song is about Tim. This album reminds me of a Punk version of Alanis Morrisette's early stuff about Dave Coulier. I've always loved bitter ending love songs by chicks. I don't know why. It sounds like she depended too much on him to make him happy. You can see it in her old songs too. I knew the relationship would end when I heard "Young Crazed Peeling" when she sings, "I love a man from California, he's the prettiest thing, we got the same disorder. How you feel! It's okay! It's never gonna change anyway!" Sounded obsessive. I'm thinking Tim felt smothered, and rightfully so. I've had similar relationships and the signs are all there. Tim was naive and thought he could "save" her from her sorrows. Brody was let down (rightfully so) because he built her up and let her down.
At leaast that's my take on it. |

Well, Tim sort of talks the way he sings, but not exactly. He doesn't sound like he's fucked up on anything. He has a kind of Mexican/Californian/Ghetto accent. Look at this interview to decide for yourself. http://youtube.com/watch?v=z0PGTClWa1Y |

| Green Day – Panic Song Lyrics

dumpyerweed, there's more to it than that. I see it more like it was written during a panic attack while being depressed and nihilistic. He's feeling a void in his life. It may have been induced by drugs in a way, but the feelings he talks about are not exclusive to drug users. Plus, the motivation to even take drugs was caused by something else in his past. Possibly the loss of his father and alienation elsewhere that he's experienced. |

| Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics

It's about reflection. Those times you reminisce about your past mistakes and joys and see that it is time to move on. It's about moving onto a new chapter in your life. It has a tinge of melancholy with an underlying sweetness and optimism.
It reminds me of a Nietzsche quote. I'm not sure if this is the exact quote, "That was life? Alright! Once more!" |

2 possibilities for this song. 1. It could be meth induced. Green Day has been known to use speed in the past. 2. It could just be from the well known insomnia he had from being up with his new kid at the time. I have never taken any upper besides coffee, and I can relate to the song... being up all night, writhing in bed, staring at the clock, being hyper and sleepy at the same time, a sense of dizziness and disorientation, etc. |

| Green Day – At the Library Lyrics

I love this song. This happened to me, and still happens, many times. I see a girl that looks interested in me, and may very well be in a way, but she ends up being with a girlfriend. It's like what Woody Allen quoted from Groucho Marx or Freud, "I would never want to be part of a club that would have me as their member."
Nick72911 & Longview, I doubt that you two are right. Billie may have very well been quoted saying that, but it was probably to be sarcastic. The band has a very dry "Holden Caulfield-esque" sense of humor. |

| Green Day – Castaway Lyrics

I don't think Green Day intended to mean just one thing specifically. Over all, it's about individualism, doing something your passionate about... and the lonliness that it carries. It's obvious that they had their reputation in mind. They were cast out by their peers when they signed to a major label. They wanted to grow as a band and reach more people... but by doing that, they would be alienated, which they were. It still resinates. I wouldn't say they regret it, but they'd like to back "home" every once in a while. |
