I think this song is about taking your time to have sex for the first time with someone new, and saying how you're so attracted to one another but you just need to wait a little bit and it will all be worth it. |

| The Kooks – See the Sun Lyrics

i think this could be partly inspired by hemingway's novel the sun also rises. we read it last year in my english class and i brought this in as a connection piece.
first of all, the whole reference to the sun rising and falling which also appears in the book's title. secondly, "now she's here on someone else's arm" may refer to the woman jake loved, brett, who was engaged to one of his friends. she couldn't be with jake because he was impotent even though he treated her really well ("i've been good to you"). "about lovers and how they should lay" could be about how he's impotent because of the war and insisted that she be with someone who can give her what she wants. and also, "wasn't it you who said life was like a plastic cup": brett was kind of wild and did what she wanted so that could be about that.
all of that could be very construed but i think it fits really well! haha =) |

jdunphy89, just because people are making connections that weren't intended when the song was made doesn't mean you need to have a little fit. Nobody's implying that the song was written about/for the book and movie. It's like when you're in a class for school, and the teacher asks you to find an outside connection. In case you were wondering, though, Kristen Stewart, the girl who played the main character in the movie that everyone's talking about, didn't like the song that was supposed to be playing for the prom scene, so she chose this one instead. Who knows her motivations, she probably just liked the song. That's not a sin. Calm down. |

This song is hauntingly sad and beautiful. It makes me want to cry as well. I love the guitar in the background. It feels so short though... I wish it were longer! His voice shocks me, in a good way though. Love it!! |

i love this song so much. yeah, it's different, but it's still bloc party through and through. i just love the background... love the dancey vibe without seeming to "poppy". the lyrics may be a bit simple, but i like them that way. can't always have obscure meanings, you know... it gets a little monotonous. i just wanna get up and dance whenever i hear it!! (although i do admit it was really stupid of them to "re-release" the album. it was totally unnecessary and they shoulda left it on the EP) |

actually, going back through the lyrics, i think (but i'm not sure, since this band is so deep!) that it's about a girl who's considering suicide, or who is at least depressed, and he's trying to convince her not to. |

Before you've even seen it
The old horizon's gone
Another recollection
Of the blind, deaf summer sun.
i absolutely love those lines. i have absolutely no idea what this song means though, and i don't even think i really want to know... i like how obscure the lyrics of all forward russia's songs are. |

Not sure but I think it's just typical Louis XIV conceitedness. If he's not there, it's not a good time. Don't know about the grand apartment parts though. |

I think sporkit has got a lot of it right. There's two things I wanted to point out though...
I don't know what it says on the jacket, because I lost it, but the part that says "five o'clock news is fucking fantasy", in the song it sounds a lot like it says "five o'clock news is A fucking fantasy". I don't know if this makes much of a difference but that would make it sarcastic instead of meaning it's all made up.
"There's a priest in shackles,
makin' bombs outta' bibles."
This sounds to me a lot like the terrorists. We're capturing a bunch, so shackles, but then they are using their religious beliefs to do terrorism against us. Just a thought, though. |
