first off, id like to end accusations that something was "done" to Hayleys voice in this song. Hayleys range is HUGE and in a choir she would be an alto.its all her in this song. and my thoughts on the song itself i think to sum it up is basically about a person who feels insane and alone in a crazy messed up world he's been put in and just is kind of there because he has to be. The representation of the girl is hopes and dreams, many which are lost once we grow and let are mind wander off onto less important things because we think those things are impossible. But the girl is a reminder to the boy he is not alone and there still is hope in the world. |

Hayley said on TRL and in other interviews this song is basically about having a crush on someone but the dark side of it.basically to the point of it becoming obsession with the person. "id rather waste my life pretending then have to forget you for one whole minute" she knows this person doesnt/wont like her but she'd rather still be around him and pretend that he will then accept it. |

actually Hayley talked about this song in a live journal reply to a comment someone left in her post "what are you ashamed of?" and basically Hayley had replied to the girl "i cant say ive ever loved someone and longed for another.but I have loved someone and used another.i actually wrote a song about it and I hope it makes the record." so personally Im guessing Decoy is that song.and it makes perfect sense. she pretended to like someone just so she could get to another.it was fake.a decoy.i think that basically sums it up in a nutshell. |
