i dont know who levon or Alvin tolstig is but some web sight said this..."It is widely believed that the song was inspired by Levon Helm, who was the lead singer and founder of 'The Band', another popular group from the 60's and 70's. The lyrics were written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and Bernie claims that the name is purely fictitious. There is however a history of the name Tostig, who was the Earl of Wessex in the early 1040's, and coincidentally, Wessex is where Bernie Taupin is from. " |

this song reminds me of every jersey girl who has been dicked over by guys her hole life "There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away They haunt this dusty beach road In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet" she dosnt want to trust a guy but still puts herself out there just to hofully find that perfect guy. and from the guy point of view he just wants to be that perfect one for her the one to show her how amazing she is "All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood With a chance to make it good somehow". i still get chills when its late at night, im driving home and it comes on.
i blame the boss for my love and disier to have my own jersey girls and the reason i keep trying to make things work with my ex (who is a jersey girl). he makes each one seam like a princes. also ButtOfMalmsey i agree with you 100% not only do you not get lyrics like that but no other guy could get away with saying that to a girl except the boss... |

I’m sorry but it is not "a friendly ribbing from Dylan " Dylan hates the Boss! He feels that he plays on jersey and patriotism to much also the line "In Jersey anything's legal as long as you don't get caught" is about how Dylan thinks the Boss stole his singing and lyric style...also all along the watchtower has a different feel when Hendrix does it then when Dylan does it, Dylan has more of a political feeling to it Hendrix is just raw and power full but I do agree most (not all) Dylan songs sound better song by other people but the headstones version blows... |
