This is basically about how Al saw the world when he was deep into heroin. He feels nothing anymore and heroin is either his savior or his destructor. |

It's basically about the media and fan's own hounding of the band, spreading outlandish rumors about Layne and speculating if the band broke up, and this is their rebuttal. |

This is Layne addressing his heroin addiction and wanting to get clean (he even said in an interview, "Why do people still take drugs? Don't they listen to my lyrics?" But he's also well aware of the world around him and how sick it is, so why bother getting clean? Death will eventually claim him, so might as well go out in your own sick world. |

| Alice in Chains – Rain When I Die Lyrics

I just have to say, great song, one of my personal favs. And I believe it did rain on April 5th in Seattle, the day he's estimated to have died, which I'm not surprised about. Layne had a way of seeing what he was becoming, so I believe he had a way of knowing what would happen the day he died. Awesome artist, he is surely missed. No lyricist quite like him. |
