Very beautiful song. When you're being stubborn about something in order to keep face, people will rub it in your face when they think you're wrong. This song is about the feeling afterwards, I think, when your "tooth breaks" (could be a metaphor for any "bad tooth" problem) and people who had been telling you to see a doctor ("forcasters of disaster") basically say "toldya so" and you try and erase their proof out of bitterness by smiling and not showing your broken tooth. There's more in there than that -- I haven't quite deciphered the knight/night school thing... night school maybe because sometimes people who attend night school are trying to "erase the proof" that they can't get an education... that would explain the whole doodling and drawing anything except what they're taught thing. But not all night school-ers are like that and I still don't get the Knight part. |
