This song hit me when my parents divorced. It was just how I was feeling. My whole life had just been lived by habit and other people's decisions and I was being expected to go along with these things. Noone was accountable, it was just a problem that happened and noone's fault and I had to be strong for my younger brothers. The line about stepping to the nth degree was really personal and funny because my dad kept saying I had to step up to the plate which is his was of saying you have to face your problems head on and it was like, I'm not just stepping up to the plate, I'm stepping beyond the plate and noone cares. The lines about writing diaries and being a hero for the old romantics makes a lot of sense to me too. Its a strong song. |
