[make a post:]

"someone tells me what they think this song means...

I heart it. "

[wait a bit...]

[make another post:]

"I mean tell, someone TELL me what they think this song means"

[no one replies for over a year.]

[you forget about this thread.]

[that's the meaning of this song.]

John Carpenter has, tongue in cheek, described "Dark Star" as "'Waiting for Godot' in space."

Interesting about the Doolittle raid. In the film Dark Star (where Pinback got their name), one of the other characters is named Doolittle.

All the lyrics I posted on this site were copied directly from a PDF file of the lyrics for Autumn of the Seraphs that Touch and Go Records published.

What you mentioned makes sense though. Just a funny pun I suppose.

Bloodhound Gang – No Hard Feelings Lyrics 18 years ago
The song is about Jimmy Pop's breakup with his girlfriend. There were two other songs written about said girlfriend, Kiss Me Where It Smells Funny off One Fierce Beer Coaster and Three Point One Four off of Hooray for Boobies.

Pinback – This Red Book Lyrics 18 years ago
Does anyone else think this song in some way is referencing Mao Zedong?

I always thought it did in some way, but I couldn't really make a clear connection.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotations_from_Chairman_Mao_Zedong

This might be a bit of a stretch:

"And though the text was failed" - most of the world didn't accept communism

"Too obvious, they said, and moved it underground" - there's still a minority people that think he was a great person (underground)

"Make me burn out like your name" - most people don't recognize Mao Zedong's name

Pinback – The Yellow Ones Lyrics 18 years ago
Awesome song. My favorite on this CD.

This song is about Hydromorphone (Dilaudid).

They're infamous little yellow pills opiate users inject. Many people who've had them (and can compare them to opiates) maintain that it's one of the best opiate highs attainable.

Dilaudid is mentioned also in the movie Drugstore Cowboy.

"I feel my head goin' down again" - refers to the opiate 'nod' people often get.

"You disappear from the foreground" - pretty much sums it up right there.

Pinback – Walters Lyrics 18 years ago
probably my favorite pinback song.

it's obviously about Larry Walters, read more about him here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Walters

Here are the official lyrics from Touch and Go Records (minor differences):

You made your mark on me.
You laid your past to sleep.
No other might worry.
Alone, but not alive.

Anyone else would slit from sleeve to shoulder.
Anyone else would not deserve your life.
It seems that all lines convalesce beyond your side.
It’s sense that all I’ve worried for is vain.

Larry climbs into his lawn chair.
Waves a goodbye.
Unties from the post.
Races towards the sky.
Takes a sip out off his beer and says, “It looks amazing”.

Climbs until he can’t think.
Can’t hear a sound.
Shoots out the balloons and falls to the ground.
Jumps out off of his chair and says, “It was amazing”.

Now that I’m miles above you here.
Did I snap the last thread of all my fears?

Is there nothing left for me to do?

Went out on a hike and he never came back again.

Get me down...

Let me down...

U-oh-a-u-wah...
