| From reading the quotes is easy to say that "Love is a drug". If your either a lover or addict this song still applies however you interpret. | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – Battery Acid Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Vaseline has a good interpretation. I like the 3rd verse: Battery Acid in my viens? Unidentified remains The YES button broke to automatic Irrational doseage of furious static erasing what You are We are Taking this drug leaves you in a state where you don't know who you are anymore (unidentified remains). You know longer choose to take the drug. Instead the drug takes you (The YES button broke to automatic). |

Looking back at the music video I can see why it seemed anti-war cuz of all the other anti-war videos during that time. But this song is not anti-war. Its anti-conforming. Notice that the main character in the music video goes to school and joins the military because of society. When the main character is in the war zone he remembers his friends and wonders why he is there. Its because of his parents/society. Its anti-conforming also because of the fact that all of the grown ups are the same and also the soldiers. They all were shaped by society. We don't see that we're "running away" because we think that "what [we're] trying to find" is some place other than w/in ourselves. |

I agree w/ Mouse Clicker 100%. I also agree w/ gartz who said that the song is about "growing into the person you were meant to be". To brush up on Mouse Clicker's interpretation of the 1st verse I'll provide my interpretation. The 3 first words (Inspiring, Shining, Rising) are adjectives describing a true individual. The way Mike Busse says'em makes this first line separate from the rest of the verse. The next 3 lines ([1]And when you're in my way, [2] I'm not dividing me from you cause we're working together, [3]Perfect in its splendor like the currents of the weather) suggest that when 2 people coexist they lose their true individuality in order to benefit for the whole. The next 2 lines ([1]The splinter in my center hindering all of my pleasure [2]is me manifested as you in this endeavor) talk about the "splinter" which keeps the individual from being himself and achieving true bliss. The "splinter" is the fake person you become because of society's expectations. This splinter hurts/hinders you because you're not true to yourself. Society tricks you into believing that in order to achieve happiness you have to do certain things like go to college, have a nice car and earn a lot of money. THE ONLY HAPPINESS YOU CAN FIND IS W/IN YOURSELF. Thats why I agree that this song is about being who you were meant to be and not what society expects you to be. The last 2 lines ([1]Once responsibility is taken I can render [2]Experience to be however I want to remember) mean that once one takes responsibility for who they are they can finally exist/be. And once that is done you can live your life the way you want to. *To sum up my interpretation of this song I'll say that "The only way to live and be happy is through your own 'religion'. That meaning you live by your own beliefs, morals and interpretations." or in other words, "Follow your bliss". |

"I love this city, but I've set and numbered its days. I love this city, enough that I'll set it ABLAZE." I don't think it's insanity. Wouldn't you set your home ablaze if it turned into a "monster"? It'd be just like someone you love telling you to kill them to put them out of their misery. |

*I messed up in the second paragraph..lol I meant to say: This persona who's singing is saying how much they love their home and that they'll even cause destruction (to purge the land from it's "sheep-skin wearing wolves"). |

| Thrice – Open Water Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm not sure what this song is really about but I think it's about God and life in general. "I'm starting to believe the ocean's much like you, because it gives and it takes away."- There are ups and downs. "The open water chills me to my bones, but it's the only place that I feel alive. The ocean floor begins to disappear; I sense that terrible depth. The OPEN WATER is my only fear, but I'll sail as long as I still have breath in me" - Life is scary but living is what I'll do as long as Im willing to live |

I think this song's about showing someone that there is a darker world out there. Dustin is the person who reveals this bad news to his listeners who then become angry at the world (He "swings the door wide open" and turns their "jaded" eyes "red" with flame.) I think Dustin says "I'll have everything I need, when you forget and come back home; so I'll just sit and wait." to indicate that his listeners will eventually forget that the world is awful so that they can go back to living "happy" lives. I think Dustin "sits and waits" to show that he is only a man and that he can't change the world by himself. The world must work together in order to change this dark world into a more brighter one. |

I believe this song is about the United States and MAINLY what a true patriot would do for their country. This persona who's singing is saying how they're so willing to burn their home (to purge the land from it's "sheep-skin wearing wolves") that they'll even cause destruction. I believe Thrice thinks that people of not only the U.S but the rest of the world are not satisfied of where they are heading. These people need something new to happen; a revolution. |

I agree with DubbaEwwTeeEff. It seems pretty clear in the lyrics what Dustin is talkin about if you know what's goin on in the world and what can happen. I also believe that Dustin is speaking as if he's the nuclear bomb. He can also be some kind of soldier. "I feel that I was meant for something more" - The bomb could be used for life instead of death i.e. Nuclear power...(Same applies to the soldier. He could be thriving instead of destructing.) This is where I came across the idea that the song is about a Bomb's perspective: "And so I hid among the smallest things" - This Bomb's power/destruction was discovered by looking at "the smallest things"...atoms....(Atom Bomb) "You found me there and ferried me above."- Man discovers bomb and puts it in a plane where it goes to bring The Flame Duluge |

| I'd say it's about dealin with problems in a relationship whether it'd be girlfriend/boyfriend or any other friend. It's not good to lie to any friend. Communication is key and essential in any relationship. Once people stop talkin' to each other, they drift away. Facing the facts and moving forward in a relationship is what I think this song is about. | |
