What this song means to me...I think it could be from one friend to another but my view is as if Jesus is talking to him. When He looks into his eyes He sees alot of hate built up. He is pushing Jesus away because of past hurts and feeling down like it won't get better...Thus he throws it all away again. Jesus wants him to find the place deep within his soul that isn't altered by sin and the ways of this world...his inner child, see Matthew 18:03. There is more to this life than he sees if only he would open up his eyes and see the truth but no one can force him to do so he has to want it. Deep inside his mind he's "forced" to think nothing will change..The devil is getting to him and filling his head with lies. So Jesus takes him by the hand and leads him and guides him. Thus him being in a happy place. :-) God bless! Thats what Open up your eyes means to me. |

I really like this song. What it means to me....(I can definitely relate to this song) Basically when he says wandering off the narrow path, that he has been making quite a bit of mistakes and he knows that God has given him so many things that he didn't have before...peace, uncondtional love, mercy, and salvation...etc.
He knows that God always gets him through tough times. Deep down inside he wants to do whats right. He hates the way it feels to let God down so to speak. He knows he needs God in his life and he promises to make the sacrifice. (Things that cause him to sin...etc.) The world is pulling him...tempting him to sin. He feels like the odd man out when he prays..quite a bit of people aren't as fond of that these days. In the midst of tough times he calls on God to help him through. At least that is what the song means to me. :-) |

I think that the song in a brief description of what it means is about him feeling broken and bad about messing up. Knowing that it does hurt God when we sin. And him wanting God to "break" him so to speak in a good way....Thus the line "I need to be broken, take the pain away". |
