this is my favourite death cab song, and im an avid death cab listener an LCD means liquid crystal display. Hes saying that everytime he looked at it, she slipped further away from him. ALmost like the rational, "in a blink of an eye" he was slowing losing her, and more so as his eyes travelled around the room. It was something that distracted him. I think the next section is the most powerful. Amongst the vending machines, and year old magazinies, in a place where we only say goodbye. (the year old magazines symbolizing that no one is really in there for the magazines,no one cares about anything that shallowly lines the lobby of the infamous hospital, "in a place where we only say goodbye". " i knew that you were a truth i would rather lose , then to have never lain beside at all" (saying hed rather have known her and lost her, then to have never known her at all. she was real to him, she was truth to him...something he could manage to lose, but to never regret knowing) my FAVOURITE line. "and i looked around at all the eyes on the ground, as the tv entertained itself" (ahh! i think this line just sums up the whole song, and the nervous waiting room feeling, and the way certain things lay scatered around the waiting room to take your mind off the painful realization that you are waiting...waiting on a watch that isnt your own, for something you have no control over. We depend so much on the tv to entertain us, but when we are faced with something, that cant be masked by the comforting security the tv gives us, then do we really know what it means to feel lose, and to have no where else to go, but to embrace it. "theres no comfort in the waiting room, just nervous pacers . bracing for bad news" (no matter whats thrown in there.you cant fight the stail air, the false hope, and hollow smiles that bring everyone to the same place, an uncomfortable waiting room, when all superficiality seems to stop, and only heart beats help to pass the time." "love is watching someone die, so whos gunna watch you die" ( i always find when someone dies, your overwhelmed with so much. and your chest explodes with emotion. with emotion you cant bear to describe, when your heart physically aches. and i think that when we are faced with the complete OPPOSITE of love , do we realize what love is. love is that chest exploding, indescribable feeling, that makes your heart ache for all the wrong, but at the same time...all the right reasons. |

this song always makes me tingle. its something about the desperation in his voice, and the way he means what he is singing. I mean, hes not even apologizing to me, and im about to take him back lol i love the part about "questions of science, science and progress, dont speak as loud as my heart" reminds me of the way that society always trys to rationalize things with science, and numbers..put everything in solid fact. but that hearts dont do that, and even as the facts scream, nothing screams as loud as his heart. ah ps tarakf, I love the "realizing you chose logic over love" thats so true. and the line , " ihad to find you, tell you i need you, tell you i set you apart" we all love to be needed, and the fact that he seeks her out, just to tell her that. i find very powerful |

thats weird. The first time i heard this song, I thought it was about someone being selfish. and I thought the lines "first you save yourself, then you save the world..but first you save yourself" not like him asking her, but him saying...thats what you do. its always about you, you come first. and the part about him needing her shelter now, but he says "but..." and repeats the corus..sort of reiterating the fact that he might need her, but he must not forget that she always puts herself first.....then comes everyone else. thats just what i thought of when i first heard it,but now I see it from the point of her being selfLESS and maybe not selfISH |
