i'm really surprised that this song wasnt more popular than Love and Memories.....everyone seems to hate it....i mean, i'm defiantely a bigger fan of Souls Aflame and The Wanderer as albums in general, but i think this is one of their stronger songs on SoAS

agree with TheStranger5250.....marc even mentions it being a somewhat politcal song, how society (the mom in the song) forces us (the kid) to move to one side of a decision, forcing a "black/white" decision as a child sees it........even if it was about toys its still a cool song

O.A.R. – The Wanderer Lyrics 18 years ago
apparently Marc wrote a story called "The Wanderer"...but the songs "About an Hour Ago" and "Someone in the Road" are supposed to relate to this song and the whole wanderer saga. as usual, a lot of reoccuring themes with OAR. great band.

O.A.R. – Ladanday Lyrics 18 years ago
marc said that this song was about his friend peter and he simply wanted to write a song about peter's open-mindedness and free spirit.

Peter stood there looking for love, looking for freedom, and that was freedom's call

O.A.R. – Black Rock Lyrics 18 years ago
this is my favorite OAR song to listen to Marc's improv. There is a reoccuring theme of Old Man Time throughout OAR's music like in songs On Top the Cage, Old Man Time, and of course Black Rock. In most live versions Marc tells of his 'encounter' with Old Man Time. i love the metaphor and i love how he plays it out and the theme of Black Rock in so many different songs.

Cuz when i head out route 28
black rock living becomes a state of mind
and a state of mind i take wherever i've been, and gone, and back again
