jenn_04 mentioned this on the first page, but got the author wrong: "The albatross hangin' round your neck Is the cross you bare for your sins he bleeds" is a reference to the lyrical ballad "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. in this story, a ship leaves on a voyage south and eventually they get stuck in the ice. Then one day an albatross flies there and they crew rejoices and it seems to bring good luck, until oneday the mariner who is telling the story shoots it with his crossbow. after this they are plagued with bad luck, so they make the mariner wear the albatross around his neck as a sign of penance. |
